I lived in Paris in the 60's when the rubber wheeled metros were introduced. They were, and are my favorites. I thought it was the future but they don't seem to have made much of an impression. At least it appears they continue to modernize the rubber wheeled trains but I think they might be stuck doing this due to the problems of changing back to steel wheeled cars. I hate the glass safety barricaded. I mean, at Olympiades, a new station, what is the problem where it is necessary. I wish they would stop and remove what has been erected. Thanks for the great videos!

+Bluelithium I think the main reason for not going widespread with the rubber tire railcars is the high costs with conversion. It is impractical nowadays to convert an existing line to rubber tire than it is to build one from scratch. I'm even hearing now that the line 4 trains could get scrapped due to excessive wear and tear, which would really be sad.

Thanks. I like the train cars. They have nice big windows, and are fairly quiet, even though I like the noise of NYC Subways.I do notice that they are basically 2 track lines, not like NYC Subways, with many Multi Track (3 or more tracks) Lines.

Having three or four tracks for the greater part of the system is actually quite unique to NYC.

How is it several lines on the metro are on rubber-tyred operation when only 5/16 lines in the metro are on rubber-tyred operation

The station safety barriers at 2:00 look different, and kind of strange. Are they really needed? Most stations don't have them.

The stations of Line 13 in the city center all have these barriers. This line is severely overcrowded during rush hour and they are required as a safety measure to prevent people from falling on the tracks. They also help trains to enter and leave stations more quickly and by these means increase capacity of the line. Wikipedia says that this Line has a headway of only 95 seconds at peak times.

+Luftschlange I hear that graffiti used to be terrible on this system during the 80s and early 90s, just as it was in NY.

I love graffiti art, but i'd shoot whoever wanted to vandalize any kind of railway stock. Keep your art on walls and canvas, not on our transport.

The rubber tyred trains actually don't need drivers, they are coded to run themselves without a driver.
