Yeah, it's cool, active muscle input is required to keep your mouth shut. Dead bodies' mouths drop open (so does your mouth sometimes when you're asleep or unconscious).

Most funeral homes these days will insert a cord through the gums and out of the nose to tie the jaw & mouth closed. I’m interested to know how she morphed into that and what the cause and circumstance were.
@DuneDemon84 жыл бұрын
Could be that - she was a rich woman - toothless because too much sweets, and that explains the weight, but bones did not deteriorate because she had some moderate physical activity and probably died young.
@Sadimal4 жыл бұрын
A recent study of her body suggests she was in her late 20's-early 30's at the time of death. The tooth loss can be a variety of reasons. The middle class also had access to sweets since the tax on sweets was lowered and more affordable.
@DuneDemon84 жыл бұрын
@@Sadimal I my knowledge of the period she lived in was zero but I was a bit close.
@helenchappell65024 жыл бұрын
DuneDemon8 The age is death suggests she died in childbirth, fairly common at that time. Or diabetic, which could also explain the lack of teeth.

Saw this at the museum. This is a great place to visit. If you get to Phila., PA, do plan a visit. It is in Center City, fairly close to the Big Major Attractions Liberty Bell, Indepenence Square, etc. I think you will be pleased. Best wishes to all.

@ESOTERICKPLAN not sure I understand Question? or if question was serious - its been generally believedthat the adipose tissue changes due to an long exposure to basic fluids while lying in place think of a nearly successful attempt to make lye soaps . Also they are saying Like tallow, or wax, or soap, because the tissue slightly resembles all of these items- to wash your hands after handling the body you would need to use - more / real (!?) soap
@R.Oates79024 жыл бұрын

@ESOTERICKPLAN - Esp since w/ Universal Precautions the gloves gown etc. worn by the M.E. would mean (s)he would never directly touch the body !
@brfisher11239 жыл бұрын
What I want them to find out is why is the "soap lady's" mouth wide open like that; I didn't think people could actually die with their mouths wide open like that (even when they were tortured to death). With that kind of expression, I don't want to imagine what happened to that poor woman at the time of death.
@brfisher11238 жыл бұрын
That perfectly explains why I've never seen any bodies with their mouths hanging wide open before.
@brfisher11238 жыл бұрын
So I'm guessing our jaws drop even lower once our bodies start decomposing.

@Jess1405947 жыл бұрын
As other people have stated, it’s to do with the muscles etc during composition but also when bodies start to decompose, gases within the body tend to push things about a bit inside and quite often the tongue protrudes outwards which also causes the mouth to open :)

@squishish4 жыл бұрын
My guess is that since it's a one time thing and they're not doing a lot(like hundreds) in a short time span, it's not enough to do anything to them. Doctors and dentists step out of the room bc they do the x-rays all the time and over time it would start to affect them c:

how can someones jaw open up like that???? (no offense)
@pussygalore72407 жыл бұрын
death 101 when a person dies, the whole body relaxes, including the mouth and other oraphisis. Some cultures do stitch the eyes or mouth shut, but often are left 'natural'. It's the same when a person naps, they relax and often the mouth is open, hence snoring occurs.

But when was she dated from? I know that historically in Britain women were often "gifted" false teeth as a wedding gift. So would have their teeth removed when they were getting married.
@helenchappell65024 жыл бұрын
Do you have reliable sources on that? I’m an historian with a speciality in costume and culture, and I’ve never heard that. Considering how difficult making false teeth is (see George Washington) I think someone is pulling your leg.
@jennyd7474 жыл бұрын
@@helenchappell6502 I'm sure you'll find it if you look into it. It was more common more recently, but there was a trade in teeth that would be set in dentures. They'd literally pull teeth from the dead on the battlefield because the value of teeth was so high.
