Beautiful song. My interpretation: The "young fool" is going through an existential crisis and is feeling sorry for himself. The wise old man tells him he's asking these questions to avoid his fear of doing the things he knows he must do. His whole question-asking adventure (his "escapade") is just a way to avoid confronting his responsibilities. The part I like most is the old man pointing out that everyone, deep down, knows what they must do, despite how confusing life can be.

You shouldn't look at it as being depressing. We learn and then we teach. We gain wisdom and pass it on, this is how things are, even in our life. The beauty of human life is not the repetitiveness of our society or how insignificant all our lives are. It's the beautiful messages we convey, and the overwhelming emotions of happiness, love, and content that we can feel.

It is a fantastic song. I think the audio is just how he wanted it. The mics, instruments, the audio effects are taylor made - watch them doing this video on letterman - the drummer is playing what looks like a tire rim. Brilliant! It's so hard to find a new sound and this one it hypnotic!

oh i see... the young fool could only choose 3 questions of life to ask the profound old man and the old man answers it with a song before he dies. music is the key to life... it mends broken hearts, allows us to live in the light, and makes our nights go by.
