This is one of my favorite modern pieces ever. Phoenix may be constructively better but this piece has much more creativity, is a mystery at every turn, nothing is too different from each other, and the theory is just amazing. I especially love the xylophone chord being repeatedly smashed when all else is quiet, and this preformance in general is just more dynamic. I can't stop wanting to see the Timpanist play and wanting to know the theory behind it because it is absolutely epic!!!!!! I just love it to death, and all that elongated weirdness with the gong notes and the xylophone chord, and then 5 seconds of silence and the JUMPSCARE of the iconic mysterious motif that also ended Nishimura's Phoenix. I just love this piece so much I can't even fathom, I need to draw a Timpanist like this dude I CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT THE FREAKING TIMPANIST I'll just stop right here 😂.
