Great stuff Bill! It looks and sounds brilliant. I too am using a board that Todd kindly sent to me in my latest DCR creation. The quality is excellent. Looking forward to seeing your TX section come together. Look after yourself. 73, Nick M0NTV

The goal of modern mixers appears to be to make them smaller, not better. I've seen more than 1 YT video where they built their own relatively large mixers that out-performed the commercial ones they had.

@@johnwest7993 I pay shockingly little Attention to layout and symmetry. But they work. They mix.

One of the P3ST kit builders had a bad ADE-1 too. Now with your experience, I'm beginning to worry about them. Have you ever had an SBL-1 or TUF-1 end up bad?

I have got some old pullout TDK mixers from comms equipment, and they all seem to be ok. Similar to SBL-1. It possible that a DC potential via the IF port may damage mixers, so some current limiting on the IF port may help. Also seen old packaged mixers 30+ years old have shown increased inbalance due to degradation of the silicon goo inside them. I have only seen one mixer, an 18 GHz SMA mixer show increased loss of several more dB in almost 50 years of RF repair. Even home built mixers with well matched diodes work well. Losses are quite dependent on the diodes used. Another very important note is the Si5351A have DC potential on the RF outputs, so DC blocking capacitors are necessary.

I think you can destroy the tiny coils in an SBL-1 if you put too much RF or LO energy into it. That may have been what I did with the ADE-1.

I suspect old FT101s are an endangered species in northern Virginia, after Bill’s periodic hunting parties…😂

It is a thing of beauty. Fortunately, there are a LOT of them out there -- this was one of the most widely sold HF transceivers. soldersmoke.blogspot.com/2021/07/mythbuster-video-3-using-vfo-from-yaesu.html

Way too complicated. I'd just be putting a 3 crystal ladder between 2 ne602s. No matching networks..😄
