My dad was a mortarman with the 29th Div in WW2 & carried the M1 carbine. He loved it & said it had good knockdown at range which said was normally 100 or so yards.

I bought a Plainfield M1 carbine a few years ago before the prices went crazy. It has a Plainfield receiver and mostly excellent condition GI parts. It's really a nice little rifle that anyone can shoot well as the recoil is even less than my 9mm carbine. 30 carbine ammo is expensive and difficult to find but with so many carbines coming back into the country I'm hopeful we will once again have reasonably priced ammo.

@@HistoryinFirearms Agreed. Prices have gone to ridiculous highs. As much as I love mine, I'd never pay what they are going for to buy another. The military carbines that need work and are in poor to fair condition are priced in the stratosphere compared to just 5 years ago.

Before the Ruger carbines... the M1 Carbine was used on WWII in the Pacific wars.

Yep. They can be hard to get on and off so they were not used much. Probably why they can still be had for cheap.
