I wish you could have done a before and after on fuel economy also.
@listenact7 жыл бұрын
I've always kept an eye on it. Mods affected it far less than I expected. I maybe dropped 1-2 mpg. Now I get consistent 16.5-17mpg. My previous CUCV got low-20s, but this one never did as well on fuel economy for some reason.
@dmzflightmedic7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! I test drove an 84 CUCV a few days ago and I literally watched the fuel gage go from 1/4th gal to 1/8th gal from driving a 4 mile round trip, no mods. I was really surprised, no telling what kind of miles the thing had.

Hey I just acquired a M1009 and just added some 33x12.5 mud falkens which where a great tire upgrade but plan to take it with me to work in W. Virginia and need to take it in remote places. What’s the benefit of the bigger 14 bolt rear end?
@listenact7 жыл бұрын
Overall strength is the simplest answer. But probably the main concern with the stock 10-bolt axle is that because it's a c-clip style axle, if one of the clips break the wheel comes off the truck. I saw it happen on a local trail and it's inconvenient to say the least. That said if you drive carefully the 10-bolts are probably fine.
@johnpike96126 жыл бұрын
Not just the clip but if the axle breaks as well. The big deal about FF axles is that the weight of the vehicle is supported by a spindle and bearings like the front is but on a 10 bolt or even a 12 bolt semi float the axle itself bears the weight of the vehicle

Which gear ratio you think was the best I got a 73k10 454 on 37s I got 4:10s also but haven't really drove the truck much
@brandonmoreno39247 жыл бұрын
How did that gear change help ? I want to go for a 4:56 gear change, I currently have 2:73 on 35's and it's trash
@listenact7 жыл бұрын
I kept pretty close to the original final drive ratio by changing to 4.10 gears and 37" tires. (I used gear ratio calculators online to help make my choice). I was concerned at the time about still being able to do freeway cruising with my three speed TH400 trans. But if I did it over again, I would go to 4.56 as well. (Play with the ratio calculator tho. If you plan to stick with 35s, and if you have a three speed trans with no overdrive, 4.10s may be better all-around)

I live in Los Angeles, but that was Sedona, AZ. It is remarkably beautiful there.
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
The other CUCV's actually have 4:56 Gears,which is the M1008-M1031.The M1009 is the only one that has 3:08 Gears.I never heard about a 2:73 but that is low,3:08 is good enough for a Military Blazer.Aside from 4:56,a 4:10 and 4:30 would be good enough also.

It was in this video. I eventually turbo charged it, which I've been very happy with

What turbo did you choose? I have a 1986 blazer and I'm thinking about the banks, but it's a little pricey
@listenact6 жыл бұрын
I went with the Banks. It is super expensive new. I found a kit on a junkyard engine so was able to do it kind of low-buck.

Put a dam engine in that thing with some power. Hell a 305 Chevy with a flat cam has more power than a 6.2

@listenact6 жыл бұрын
I don't think there's one right answer here, but the 4.10s are pretty good all around ratio.
@Slim_Slid4 жыл бұрын
On the M1009 CUCV,all of them have 3:08 Gears,but then the other M1008-M1031 all have 4:56 Gears.It really depends on what you want to do with the truck or use it for.4:10 or 4:30 are decent enough for pulling on almost any truck.Combined with the Gear Ratio,having a SM-465 in one of these would be useful when off roading,but the CUCV all have TH-400 Automatics,you can still swap Transmissions.
