So the last messier object in this series will be M108, a spiral galaxy. Maybe not the last video, there is an intro video and this series deserves an outro. I would love an extra video as a celebration.

Once the Messier catalog is complete, can we move to NGC objects, please? LOVE this series--thank you!!!!

Now that would take bloody forever. There are something like 7000 objects in the original catalog, and don't forget the associated IC I and IC II, as well as the various revisions that have been made to the NGC/IC since Dreyer published it. It might be better to make a series on the Herschel's GC, which is about a thousand objects. It would take ages to do it if they used this format of having one of about a dozen astronomers look up an object in their free time, check the background of research, condense it down into a video that's less than ten minutes long, and get it edited. Might be better to expand their pool of astronomers to interview, because the reason the Messier catalog took so long to finish was because once the well known ones were done with, these astronomers would take their time becoming familiar with the less known objects before talking about them, and take it from me, that's time consuming and something that's better left to your free time! I'm sure Brady could save himself time by reaching out to astronomers that might have actually done a bit of research on these objects already.

Deep Sky video WITH Dr. Becky? Yeah, I can make time for that. I like how she shows us how added data has expanded and improved how we define things without making (too much) fun of her predecessors.

Amazing to see this project nearing completion after over a decade! What is next for the channel? If you're looking for ideas, I'd love for a series on our solar system, sort of a cross between "Moon of the Week" and Periodic Videos. You could do an updated video on each planet (and the sun, of course), and then dive into the dwarf planets, moons, and asteroids. Love your work! Can't wait to see what is next!

I believe Ophiculus wasn't considered part of the zodiac because when the concept was created in the ancient world the earth's precession meant it was off the ecliptic at the time.

Maybe we need to think about more descriptive names. Like "low rotation Galaxy" and "high rotation Galaxy" or "low metallic globular cluster" and "high metallic globular cluster" or "native globular cluster" or some other such nomenclature rather than keeping the type 1/2 dichotomies that don't tell you anything about why they are the type they are

That made me wonder if arms of galaxies were originally globular clusters that joined the galaxy, and got torn apart, and shaped into an arm.

Just one question about people born "under" Ophiuchus; You mentioned that the Sun is in Ophiuchus between 29 November and 18 December - but did you take precession into account to get those dates, i.e. are those the dates the Sun is currently in Ophiuchus or 2000 years ago (like the astrologers believe, since they don't take precession into account)?
@franziskavkarma
@franziskavkarma 2 жыл бұрын
I'm no professional astronomer or anything, so I could be wrong, but it seems like 2000 years ago (I went as far back as I could on Stellarium, which is year 1 AD) the Sun was in Sagittarius throughout Nov 29 and Dec 18, while nowadays it's in Ophiuchus during those dates. I'm not too knowledgeable on astrology, but if they don't take precession into account, then the supposedly 13th sign would be between Nov 2nd and Nov 19, I think. (TLDR, the dates mentioned in the video are the ones the Sun is currently in Ophiuchus)

Thanks @@franziskavkarma for doing the legwork in Stellarium (which I still meant to do). So it seems like Dr Becky needs to brush up on astrology because you can't have the current sky, this is far to real! ;-) ;-)

Look into Gas Streams. These objects were recently hypothesised as creating the SMBHs in the early universe. A stream of dense H gas might coalesce into pearls on a string, huhdyhuh? And create globules-a-clustered.
