Not so great for modern combat

@@donotinvite If the Ukrainians drive them into battle in close support of infantry or with tanks, they're dead meat. Most anti-armor weapons can straight up melt it. It's always been a death trap in that role. But the vehicle was meant from the beginning to be a "battle taxi." It would take troops up to just a few kilometers short of the front line outside the enemy's max anti-tank weapon range. The armor is capable of stopping small arms and shrapnel. The troops then had to dismount and march the rest of the way. It can still do that mission today.

@@EricDaMAJ To be fair to armoured vehicles, and especially old ones, vehicle's aren't rendered obsolete just because of the ease of destroying them or even the lack thereof. Even if M113s and other vehicles were destroyed in record numbers, as long as their tactical role still needed filling, they'd still be used. Because the RPG that just destroyed them definitely isn't transporting troops or moving supplies, haha.

Grüße an alle M113 Fahrer.

Very true. I was with the 11th ACR when we deployed from Ft. Meade, Md. in August of 1966. We loved the 113 ACAV as it was called then Armored Calvary Assault Vehicle. Earned my CIB as a 11th Cav trooper.

How many Soldiers does it take? Nevermind, apparently it takes 2 Crew & 11-15 Soldiers 👻
@IMAN7THRYLOS2 жыл бұрын
All these soldiers will be outside, riding on the top of the vehicle for maximum safety. The design flaw of this vehicle is the paper thin armour under its belly. An anti armour mine will instantly kill it and everything that is inside. That is why most soldiers during the Vietnam war used to ride on the top of it. That said, they have been armies that customised it a lot and added decent armour and other weaponry like Gatling guns and anti tank missiles. Regardless this is an APC that has no place in modern warfare because it lack speed, modern sensors, firepower and network centric capabilities.

It depends the variant. As I recall, the troop carrier variant of the M113A1 used by the Danes caried around 12 soldiers + the 3 man crew. It was an extremely tight fit though. And I think It got lowered, when it was decided too look at Platoon sizes in their doctrine. I might recall incorrectly, and this only happened on the G3 model, not the A1, as shown here.

@@IMAN7THRYLOS The US moved M113's to rear-area roles in the 1980's. They're not meant for front-line modern combat.
