As a Plumber I use these all the time in residential settings. No need for 18v stuff unless your doing commercial.

You don’t need 18v/upsized drills in commercial either. They’re overpowered and I’ve watched guys break a lot of stuff with them. I work as a commercial electrician and the m12 impact driver has handled everything I throw at it and it won’t break fasteners as easily. Kinda want to switch from an impact to a drill though. Impacts are better for working in cars with high torque bolts. Not needed in the construction trades

@@treehugger4916 key word. Electrician. Yall are doing small boxes regardless. Commercial plumbing is 4in waste, storm water and up. The hangers for that are 5/8. Have fun doing that with the 12v kit.

I have alot of m12 tools as a tractor mechanic, the 3/8 impact gun, 1/4 inpact driver, drill, soldering iron, disc cutter, dremel, torch and reciprocating saw... incredible tools. Much better than the 18v makita equivalent

I use a strange combo of the M12 Surge impact with the M18 Fuel Gen 3 Hammer Drill. Works great with the right bit even for harder materials like slab concrete. Obviously there's a point where it just makes more sense to bust out the SDS but there is definitely plenty of applications where the M18 or M12 hammer drill is plenty of power. Even the impact with a good bit works well for brick/block

If you use the M12 drill with an XC battery you will get a lot more power. It's absolute weaksauce if you use the battery like this guy did in the video. He likes tools but seems to be a bit clueless when it comes to technical stuff. If you wait for a couple of months until the new M12 Gen 3 drill/impact and high output batteries come out, they have heaps more grunt and should bridge the gap better netween 12/18v.

Anytime doing blues and screws, sheet rock/concrete plastic anchors or ‘rawl’ plugs - the hammer drill/driver is great all day and you’re not lugging around the Sds or Sds Max. I wouldn’t ever use a masonary drill bit over 5/16” (~8mm) as it just can’t do it and screams/whines while just destroying the bit.

I have both the M-12 series and the dewalt xtreme. The M-12 I liked least was the hammer drill. No power. I’ve also found the xtreme SDS is faster than the M-12 SDS. The ergonomics on the M-12 is not comfortable on many of the tools. I’m slowly switching to the xtreme line for everything but the niche stuff like the stapler. And I’ll probably keep the M-12 bandsaw too.

@@armdrk3233 I used my gen 2 m12 fuel drill for 8 months on the job. Running 7/8 and 1” self feed paddle bits required low gear but it did it. But I’m the end it was too much abuse and while it didn’t die, the Chuck had one lock up tooth left and the motor and drivetrain assembly was moving in the case. So I upgraded to the m18.

@AddictedtoTools

Depends on the sized battery. I love having the 6amp on it as it lasts ages and can be stood up. If you’re drilling like this a lot batteries won’t last long. If you’re just doing general fit off they last weeks with a 6. Days with a 2ah
