The wait for TC's final "fire" command before shooting is something we tried to learn not to do. Basic gunnery had taught us that. The gunners have to be killers, as was said in video. If the gunner is confident he should just take the shot without waiting for TC's permission and range.
@BundesfaustАй бұрын
This is purely going off the .31 which is the foundation for crew internal SOP. You have to wait for the complete fire command or it's a safety and you can be DQ'd.
@anid2731Ай бұрын
@Kafkodesu makes sense. I too have the experience of fire commands being more thorough during live fires vs. force - on - force

@@MonkeyLibFrontthe drills are efficient, the reason I’m taking time is to instil good habits when checking on the laser, ammo type and the loader being clear of the path of recoil. IRL it’s completely faster but using trackir is time consuming. It’s also just a learning environment 🤷♂️

I enjoy these videos! I’m a tanker on the Abram’s I’m a loader though. Can’t wait to be a gunner!

Good for you young man. Loader is a fun job but nothing like being a tank gunner. Thank you for your service and God bless.
@Roborob12345Ай бұрын
FYA for all: the awkward pause when Mac was the TC is because there's a missing loaders word in the order. With a human loader, it sounds like: C: Sabot, Lase, Tank, on G: On, 1800 L: Sabot Ready C: Fire G: Firing now Our sims can operate without a loader, and I've made that same pause a few times waiting on the loader to report [ammo type] ready.
@PhanPhantasyАй бұрын
Yeah, we were watching and some of us wanted to yell, "Sabot ready" 😂
@heylookabigmac9454Ай бұрын
I’m also checking the laser, lights and loader. You can’t see my perspective but I have trackir and check the return, ammo type and look at the loader to ensure they’re clear of the path of recoil

Interesting, you pointed out the Abrams Stadia Sights are adjusted for the target vehicle's top, not including weapon systems, in the russian tanks, the Stadia Sights are adjusted for hull only, not including turret, from track to chassis roof.
@jordancarmichael7901Ай бұрын
Fun fact, in Canadian tanks its the loader that is the secondary crew commander/second in command of the vehicle. This is different from US tanks where its the gunner that is senior to the loader.
@BundesfaustАй бұрын
@@jordancarmichael7901 Hence the difference in fire command structure and elements. Pretty sure that's a common wealth thing too but also because of the weapon system as well. I think the aussies use the same structure as us americans but I dont't actually know lol
@jordancarmichael7901Ай бұрын
@Kafkodesu yeah exactly, like with the leopard 2 the FCS actually has the loader ready the gun and select the ammo loaded. The gunner handles the range, aiming, and firing, plus it's easier to command and load versus command and gun so hence the loader is the 2IC. It's these cool little differences that make each countries' Armoured corps so cool to me!
@BundesfaustАй бұрын
@jordancarmichael7901 I love actually being able to sorta experience that too. I'd love to learn fire commands from other nations too like poland or germany.
@ComfortsSpecterАй бұрын
…. That’s Terrible
@jordancarmichael7901Ай бұрын
@@ComfortsSpecter I can assure you it is not, my friend. The differences in the FCS and the weapon system itself of the Leopard 2 versus the Abrams necessitates the difference. That's the reason and there's nothing more to say on it, really.

They all follow the same basic principles, which were derived originally from a combination of the Machine Gun Corp and Royal Artillery fire control orders prior to WW1... Just a Brit TC's input, who has served with both the Canadians and US as well as other nations... I had the exact same issues... I smiled and chuckled to myself every time whilst watching... As long as you as a crew use "words to that effect" the intent is understood... The ergonomics of the different MBT's I've crewed were much more difficult to get used to though

Ahh, Steel Beasts. The game I constantly find myself going "I really gotta play that again" before getting into it and realizing I am not cut out to be a tanker. Great video!
@CavGunnerTVАй бұрын
Not much different from when I served. I would just have to remember to call out the range, something we couldn't do on the M60A1/3s. On the 'A1, as a gunner, you hoped the TC was good with the range finder/estimation. I was fortunate in that aspect. On the 'A3 the gunner has no indication of range so relies on the TC's assessment whether the lase was good or not (saw it in a video as I have practically no experience on an actual 'A3). Where can I get a copy of this exercise? Would be good for training.

Those engineered positions are turret down. So you won't see anything from the gunners sight 😂
