A reminder that Russia's 1st Guards Tank Army, especially its 4th Guards Tank Division, hasn't been seen in action. The 1GTA was the most famous and best equipped soviet/Russian tank unit, 'protector of Moscow'. Trolls vigorously asserted that the 1GTA hadn't been largely destroyed in the first three weeks of the invasion, and was finished off in the failed rescue of Izium/Lyman. We were told, paraphrased, that it was merely shagged out after a long squawk.

Also, that chihuahua basically got wiped out by Ukrainians back in '22. The "trolls" he talks of is Ukrainian MoD’s Main Intelligence Directorate. Besides bringing receipts on the dead Russian officers, with name, rank and position to prove that, Ukrainians also took tanks - "destroyed and seized 308 units of military equipment from the said army". But have no fear - the ranks of the chihuahua tanks have been replenished by fresh fruits of green recruits. The parade army marches again.

Only one TOW missile can be fired at a time. That's because it's a SACLOS system - the operator has to keep the crosshairs on the target - and the wires are what carry the steering signals. It also takes over a second from firing to the missile starting moving ("first synthetic motion"). That's the time required for things like the battery squibs to fire and the gyroscopes to run up. The time between the two explosions is simply too short. I used to maintain the system on Lynx helicopters.

Bradleys killed more Iraqi tanks, during desert storm, than Abrams did.

I'll bet the explosion on the left is a drone hit.

I suspect that it was a coordinated attack with ground troops and the other vehicle was taken out by a MANPAD - both firing on command at the same moment.

On paper the BMP-3 *should* be pretty comparable to the M2s Ukraine has, yes they have a bit less protection but they also have more firepower options and the armor shouldn't be hugely relevant especially for this type of engagement. However, for whatever reason, we just don't seem to see BMP-3 perform as well 'in the real world' which makes me think that the practicalities of actually operating it may be significant enough to be making a real difference, that or Ukraine's training is just much better
@NotFound-sm9rg4 ай бұрын
May be that the BMP-3s are not being used as much anymore compared to February 2022, due to the heavy reliance on older systems.
@rudolfthecat11764 ай бұрын
BMP-3 is more like a light tank, it has great firepower with its 100mm cannon, but if you take a look at how the infantry is carried, and how they need to dismount... well, you'll notice a bit of an issue. They're probably more being used as fire-support than IFV's imo
@carlvanlugpin99844 ай бұрын
To be fair the 100mm is more a less just an atgm launcher that can also fire HE rounds. It cannot fire apfsds or standard HEAT munitions @rudolfthecat1176
@rudolfthecat11764 ай бұрын
@@carlvanlugpin9984 the 100mm gun's main purpose is to provide either direct or indirect support for infantry, the ATGM's are very much a secondary function, and unlike the standard HE shells the missiles must be manually loaded, and the BMP-3 can carry only a few missiles
@Phapchamp4 ай бұрын
BMP-3 is made of paper compared to Bradley. It has a good quirk of having a 100mm gun with low velocity HE shells so it can do mortar stuff. Thats about it.
