If you run Classroom Render with 'optix' on the 4080M, it takes around 15 seconds, making it 40% faster. On the Classroom Benchmark, the M3 Max is more comparable to the 4070M, which takes about 22 seconds with optix. Nonetheless, I was very impressed with how smooth the M3 Max was in the viewport. Perhaps it has to do with integrated memory?

Oh is optix the ray tracing engine and cuda is not? Or does the classroom even offer ray tracing? Also view port smoothness was also interesting wonder why the rtx 4080 wasn’t able to process it as smoothly

I just used Rotoscoping for my latest IG reel - but I dont do anything professionally. With that said, the synthetic benchmarks are your biggest tell of GPU power - and nvidia DGPU just beats it out at every benchmark. M3 Max (and Apple Silicon) are just really at CPU Single/Multi core per energy

You did not. The M2 does not have ray tracing capabilities and is measured to be about twice or three times slower than the M3 Pro in 3D rendering tasks.

I'm a fulltime videographer and editor currently using an M3 max 14'' editing on DR Studio and it STRUGGLES for some of the most basic stuff. Idk if it's something i'm doing wrong but I was on a M1 Pro before upgrading and I feel like it gets worse performance. Highly considering switching to a windows alternative, what are your thoughts on this?

what are you doing? Color editing? Fusion 3D stuff If you go windows - with a dGPU like Nvidia - it will run better but hotter/louder with fans. Also if you work unplugged -- battery wont last that long compared to mac which will run cool and quiet. My take - Windows machine will "run better" but get hot and fans

The Laptop 4080 isn't on par with the desktop RTX 4070, so you can still get better performance from a desktop for much less!

Even with my M2 Max I was able to play re2 remake and re3 remake through crossover with cxpatcher. At 4k max everything settings with upscaling I’m getting 60-80 fps on a non native game.
