Haven't taken an astronomical photograph in a while, 52 years. I build a reflector telescope, covered my self and the back of the telescope with a blanket, focused to the image on a piece of cardboard, put the film slide on the cardboard and removed the film cover. Counted to 10 and covered the film slide. Went into the house to the film development lab I had set up in the basement, developed the film and made a print. Things have changed in amateur astronomical photography.

Thank you for going into more detail about your post processing steps. It's super helpful to see somebody do things and how those changes affect the data. I'll certainly be watching for more videos from you.

Well Done! beautiful work! I am still learning how to use astro processing apps, so videos like this are most welcome and really help people like myself, who are not very experienced with computers, to learn how to use them. Best of luck with future projects, and I look forward to watching more of your videos. Clear Skies! Wes, UK.

I need to know, reflector of cassegrain which aree the most powerfull?
@starscapes7933 Жыл бұрын
They have both their pro's and cons, but generally speaking, a cassegrain is sharpest and has longer FL, but a newt is lighter, cheaper and faster. So it kinda depends on what you want really

Hi Sigurd, if you have a budget of about 1000$ and are a beginner, what kinda gear would you get?
@starscapes79332 жыл бұрын
Probably a startracker, like the star Adventurer 2i/gti and a dslr with a lens. Such a setup can really do alot, and is not too bad to get going with little knowledge

To improve your guiding use a longer focal length guidescope (i.e., 200mm or more). Off Axis Guidescope would probably be the best for 1000mm focal length. Also, if you can use Predictive Error Correction algorithm on your guiding software (PHD2 supports it), that would improve your guiding accuracy.
@starscapes79332 жыл бұрын
I guess it could make it a bit better with higher FL, but when it is no wind I get usally below 0.5", so then I don't really see a reason to upgrade
@michaelbibby86362 жыл бұрын
@@starscapes7933 There is a rule of thumb that your guidescope should be no less than about 1/4th the focal length of your imaging scope (assuming the same pixel size in guide camera as imaging camera). Your guidescope is probably 1/10th the focal length of your imaging scope. 0.5" at 1000mm will give you better stars than 0.5" at 100mm.

Kan du bruke finderscope som følger med sammen med guidekamera du har? Som er 180mm vs 120mm?
@starscapes7933 Жыл бұрын
Jeg prøvde på dette i starten, men fant ingen god måte å koble guidekamera til funderscope, så jeg bruke ZWO 30mm f4 guide scope med 120MM mini

Hey mate, I have a very similar setup, and I sometimes have some issues with dew. I was wondering what you do to combat that problem. Cheers
@starscapes79332 жыл бұрын
I had a problem with dew in the start of autumn, and then I bought a dew heater for secondary, and slapped on a regular dew heater on primary. Now though I don't have a dew issue, as the temperature difference is very small in December here in Norway

I have a question sir. In observing all these heavenly bodies have you ever seen any sign of extraterrestrial structures in space?
@starscapes79332 жыл бұрын
Yeah last night I saw three green men having an birthday party in the Andromeda Galaxy! Jokes aside though, if NASA can't find any, I'm pretty not gonna find anything with my 20cm mirror compared to NASA's JWST's 6.5 meter mirror
@mth4692 жыл бұрын
@@starscapes7933 If NASA found any, we would not be hearing about it. Hence the question.

What is bortle of your location? I see it tells in the end: 4-5. 16h of exposure f5. What about camera pixel size? Do you measure Signal-Noise Ratio of integrated photo?
@starscapes79332 жыл бұрын
My pixel size is 5.8 microns, I guess I could measure the SNR with some software like PI, but normally I don't measure it
@anata51272 жыл бұрын
@@starscapes7933 Yes, PI will tell this and other numbers such as eccentricity and FWHM.

If you want a cooled astrocam, they are really expensive, but you can come a long way with a dslr, like a used 5D mkii, or 60D modified for astro, these can come real cheap on eBay quite often
