Sometimes these types of parodies on SNL can veer into them doing it just because it's currently a hit trend/movie/whatever, but I ended up liking this one due to Aubrey and Chloe and some of the reviews (I know that was on Twitter a while back but the "Bros for gays" still made me laugh). It's not exactly a lie. I loved both films but "Fire Island" was one of multiple movies Disney screwed over last year by dumping them onto Hulu instead of doing the Netflix approach of a theatrical release first before premiering on streaming a month later, not to mention Searchlight is the independent film branch of Fox/Disney, which would have meant a limited release that might lead to wider distribution depending on its popularity, whereas "Bros" was truly the first mainstream gay romantic comedy featuring a primarily LGBTQ cast released by one of the six major distributors. In the past, most mainstream LGBTQ films distributed by the major studios weren't explicitly romantic comedies (i.e. "Love, Simon" or "The Birdcage", which were situational comedies or teen films with both comedic and dramatic elements) or showcased a majorly LGBTQ cast. That's what the difference was. That said, that line did kill me and I'd die to see M3GAN vs. Billy Eichner in the future.
