M4 iPad Pro 11" vs 13": Don’t Choose WRONG!

It's very nice that the 11" this generation finally gets the same display type, that being a main deciding factor for a lot of users. That said the 11" is the perfect tablet size I think for 99% of people. Thankfully an easier decision than the 14 vs 16 debate with MacBooks I swap between each generation LOL. I’m an artist, and even I chose the 11” iPad Pro. Yeah, the extra screen space on the 13” is nice, but to me, a tablet was meant to be held, and it’s just a little cumbersome in the hands. The 11” is so much more holdable and the screen is still big enough to work on major art projects. I even have an iPad mini when I really wanna travel ultra light. It fits in my jacket or cargo pants pocket no problem.

I have a 3rd gen iPad Pro 11inch.. and honestly I find it a bit small sometimes when it comes to things like video editing and drawing .. I just want that extra space to see more on the screen.. But at the same time, portability is important so it’s tricky

I chose the 13, I prefer this ratio for productivity and the 11 felt a little too small not to feel like a larger iphone for me (sometimes, only the 13 has a really improved layout). My perfact size would have been between both to be honest but I'd rather have the one which is a bit too large than the one I'm frustrated with. Even more than the size, the ratio of 11 bothers me a bit.

I also recently thought about the fact that the size of ~11.9 inches would be ideal. The ideal size between the existing ones. But since there is no such thing, I am inclined to less.

For me it also came down to portability, I had the 12.9, but went with the M4 11" and have yet to regret the decision.

If you want the ultimate iPad experience it’s the 13” hands down. More immersive display, louder sound. But if you want the most portable and convenient go 11”.

Honestly yeh but I can easily carry a 12.9 iPad pro with a Magic Keyboard to use as laptop when at college and it’s fine in my bag. This one is much lighter like half as light almost and thinner. Cant see the 13 being an issue then again I use it as a two in one iPad/laptop using a normal case and the Magic Keyboard when needed

It's the same display size as a laptop, unless you need it to draw or sign stuff often you might as well use a laptop at that point.

I believe if you have a Mac at home. 13 inch is the better laptop replacement. And the 11 inch the better multipurpose tablet.

@ I’m still saving up lol. I have 10.5 inch iPad Pro. I love this size. And the 11 inch will provide me more real estate, monitor support also. I will be pairing this with a m4 Mac mini.

I think I'll have to try them out at a physical store. I have the 12.9" pro right now, but very often I find it to be too heavy for me. It's just not something I would use like a tablet, and more like a laptop, but I didn't buy the magic keyboard, so it's not a laptop. I do draw on it, so I'm more curious if 11" will hinder drawing ability.

I just want to say to anyone thinking their work would benefit from the 13” but think it looks huge… you get used to it. After owning the 13” for a while the 11” looks kind of small. I owned the 4th gen 12,9” and my family owns the 2nd gen 12,9” (old design with chunky bezels) and they are convinced I own the 11”, even when I tell them it’s the same screen size only smaller bezels 😂 so yeah everything is relative 🤷‍♀️ I sold my 12,9” a couple of years ago and bought a 10,9” air, it was great but I wanted the bigger size again for mind mapping/notes and I want to transition to using the iPad as my main device for medical school so I splurged and got the 13” pro and I love it.

Ordered 11” since I have a mbp which is my main work device. I feel like 13 inch defeats the purpose of a tablet. 13 inch would make it feel like a laptop but I already have one. Also for gaming 13” is a bit too heavy to hold in your hand for a long time.

The ratio of the 11" is probably better for movies too, the 13 probably more for editing and drawing. I'm on the s8 ultra and i feel like it's a bit too big(that's what she said 😅).

I have the 2020 11 inch pro. Recently bought a M4 11 inch pro 1TB nano tech wifi and cellular before an international trip. Personally, I think I’m taking it back and getting the equivalent spec but at 13 inch. I just like more real estate in terms of the display. … I travel a lot (Delta Diamond). Still way more interested in the 13 inch.

Returning my 11 for a 13. 11 is just too small and the screen ratio is garbage. Feels like part of the screen is cut off. iPads should only be 4:3.

For the actual keys no. But I’d recommend getting a skin from dbrand if you want to protect the outside of the keyboard. That’s what I did with mine.

I went with the 11 inch and had some of the same dilemma. I still actually am flirting with the idea of trading up for the 13 inch but the more I think about it the more I fall back to the 11 . For work and production stuff I use an Alienware x14 ultrathin laptop but got tired of docking and undoing the laptop for the many meetings that I’m in and out of. Many of which I don’t really need the full power of that laptop, so I was looking for something in the middle, that I can still get to my Notion, Slack, Miro, email, text messages, etc., and keep the laptop docked in my office and run meetings from the iPad. For full productivity, if you did not have a laptop, then the 13 inches is definitely the way to go with the keyboard and touchpad but if you have backup machines or a laptop close by the 13th just seems like overkill and redundancy. The 11 inch feels very good in your hands not too big not too small where I think the 13, to be used like a true tablet when not connected to the keyboard, would start to feel wonky despite the extra screen real estate.

So I’m a working student and using the Mini 6 which I feel I’ve outgrown, and I hate using my 13” work laptop for schoolwork because I see it as my work-work machine and it throws me off lol. Anyway, is the split screen enough on the 11” or still too small? I do a lot of research and writing (so considering Air instead of Pro since I’m mostly after screen size)

Specs wise yes that is what it says but it’s not sustained 1000nits. We tested it and it was hovering around 600-650 nits for 30 minutes.

I have the iPad Pro 12.9 M2, with Magic Keyboard. just to keep in perspective for consumers who may/may not upgrade. you need the new iPad Pro a new Apple Pencil a new Magic Keyboard. i am not sure the math but it is so expensive 1,777.00 plus tax. and that is for the base version. need to wait a few months and watch the prices drop a bit on 3rd party sellers
