12:40 essentially Apple is saying “we don’t put a macOS-like OS on iPad because we want users to buy both the iPad and Mac. We don’t want them to use a Mac on iPad because then they won’t buy a Mac” Apple needs to realize that people do LOVE the iPad and they wanna do real work on it because we can see that it CAN be a great experience, but Apple is forcing them to do work only on a Mac! Here’s an idea. If Apple made an iPad called… “iPad ultra”, where that has a macOS-like interface when the keyboard is attached, and… charge people the price of iPad Pro + base MacBook… say $3000-3500… people would buy that! I know I would. That way, Apple gets to make the same money, but people get what they want!

NO, that is the dumbest question of all time and Apple will never be that stupid to ruin the iPad by enabling macOS on it. ppl have no clue whatsoever just like steve jobs always said. look at windows touchtops, the software has some half assed "touch enabled" features if at all, making it a terrible experience. android has no tablet market at all, and just like phones there is no professional software available at all. iPadOS is the ONLY platform in the world with from the grtound up made professional software made specifically for touch first. iPadOS is FAR superior to macOS, iPadOS is replacing macOS. apple will never bring macOS to iPad. i can repeat it for you: NO

It’s amazing how much ignorance there is surrounding the whining about macOS in the iPad. We want a touch display. That’s the very first consideration, even though some of us do use the Magic Keyboard. macOS is sim0,y not a touch OS. It would be terrible at that. If anyone here who is complaining is actually an Apple customer, because I know that a lot of you are not, then look at a 13” Mac display and look at everything you would use a cursor for and try to imagine using that with a finger. I’ll tell you, it’s terrible. macOS is designed for a mouse/trackpad/trackball, not touch. And the suggestion that Apple could disable touch when a keyboard is connected, yes, that could be done, but it would be very frustrating to use. I’d like more features from macOS added to iPadOS. Possibly working with third parties to create a fairly easy way to enable macOS software to run on iPadOS. It will be interesting in June to see what Apple will do at the WWDC.

Agreed. Touch first vs. Mouse are different experiences, especially when developers always develop for the lowest common denominator… which means if iPad was both touch and mouse supported equally, nothing would be touch optimized. Windows Surface has proved this to me over and over… especially since I have to use a surface for work.

i ordered one, plus an apple pencil pro. unfortunately the ipad pro itself will take longer to ship but oh my god i'm so excited ! there are people constantly talking about how the ipad makes no sense, that the macs are so much better but i don't agree AT ALL. sure, personally i don't have experience with macs but i don't care about them. ipad's are the only apple product i'm personally interested in, they are just MAGICAL in every single way ! i have so much respect for all the people working on them and i'm very happy to spend my money on it !!!

Pencil Pro is good, the squeeze gesture feels really nice but other than that, my M1 iPad Pro can do all the M4 can. I thought OLED would be miles ahead of the 11" LCD panel but the Liquid Retina Display is best in class, makes me appreciate what I've got even more. I'm expecting OS improvements and new features at WWDC.

The LCD panel looks noticeably worse than the mini-LED of the M1 ipad. Compared to the OLED, it's not even in the same galaxy. With that said, not everyone needs the best, brightest, most vivid screen. It doesn't do anything special other than look good.

I am with you on that after I went to see the new iPad, I felt that I appreciate what I’ve got even more. I got an Apple Pencil that would not work with the new one; a Logitech keyboard that would not work with the new one and an iPad that is fast, that does what the new one does and that makes me feel that what I’ve got is really nice. Maybe when they come up with the folding iPad, then I will get a new one

Great info. I absolutely see the iPad as a separate device. I bought my first iPad and am to get my 13-inch iPad today. I also own a Mac Mini and a 14-inch iPad Air. I use my iPad 90+ percent of the time. I do have tremors. I can no longer use my iPhone as well, but the iPad works awesome with its size and improved dictation. I am one of the few, but keep the Mac OS and iPad as they are. I can use Mac OS on my other products when needed .......but I love the format of iPad OS. Thanks

Once again: if apple just put the M series chips in the iPad Pro only, and the A series chips in the iPad Air and iPad, then they could easily justify only putting macOS on the iPad Pro … I heard rumors that macOS will be enabled when you dock with the Magic Keyboard and will be announced at WWDC but after listening to these guys it sounds like they have zero interest in macOS on iPad even though again they could just reserve this for the Pro Models and make that sweet sweet money

Tandem translucent MicroLED and E-Ink might be nice, come to think of it. I had never thought about sandwiching two screens together, and it makes good sense with two OLEDs according to the reviews. The ultimate computer might be a sixteen inch Wacom like screen that you could connect to your phone if Apple did something about the operating system.

I’ve picked up the 13” iPad Pro M4 512GB today to replace my 2018 Pro. I do some video editing, some Logic - but not an absolute ton. Now I’m kinda worrying whether I should have shelled out for the 1TB to get that 16 GB RAM and additional GPU core. I really don’t want to have to be upgrading again for the foreseeable… Has anyone benchmarked between the lower and top tier models yet?

I have replaced my MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro. Not looking back. 5G connectivity, portability, apps, and the  Pencil with the Magic Keyboard really does it for me. I love macOS but honestly I can do everything I need on iPadOS. I’d rather see iPadOS mature vs. putting macOS on here, which is wasn’t really designed for.

Great interview! I wish Tandem OLED will make to a MacBook. My personal take is that the performance improvement does not matter on iPadOS. It really doesn't matter for 99.9% of people. Pretty much everything is based on an app on an iPad, and the app developers target the lower spec. All the performance improvement? That's wasted. That's my experience with my M1 iPad pro which is basically a $2k KZbin machine.

Getting a calculator app from the app store is either a privacy black hole or chocked full of ads that create the opportunity to install malicious programs. I'm not concerned about the calculator app for my user experience, but it's brutal for those of us who manage iPads for seniors that need something easy, simple and safe.

Great products. I understand the desire to make it thinner because especially when carrying with a Magic Keyboard, the package gets noticeably heftier than a MacBook. Now if they’d put batteries in the Magic Keyboard that gives like 2-4 hours more battery life, I’d be way more on board. Also wholeheartedly disagree with the statement that this is the biggest upgrade since the original iPad. The 2018 iPad Pro was. For me the 2018 had it’s iPhone X moment and this years it’s iPhone 12 moment. (Funny how both iPhone 12 and iPad Pro M4 where accompanied by a hype word, 5G and AI)

I returned my iPad Pro. One thing is the new pencil seemed a little unresponsive as compared to my old iPad Pro. I'd write something and it seemed a very slight hesitation before the printed letter would show up. Anther thing that bothered me was it seemed the glass was slightly warped. When it's off the reflection off the glass was distorted, not a true flat mirror reflection. These 2 things bothered me enough that a $1400 iPad should not be imperfect. Just my opinion

Big theme on AI for iOS and ipadOS first, one example will be faster built in language translations on website’s images for example (reading manhwa/manga RAWs will be peak) or spoken word translation on the fly.

Why just not have abilit to run OSX software on a iPad. For me the Software is would need badly on an iPad is the Topaz DeNoise, Sharpen, Photo AI…. To run with LR. I love the Astetic of The Ipad Pro. I don't like The Astetic of The Ipad pencil tho. The pencils looks like something for a little kid. They need to make The Ipad pencil appear much more professional truly. I like The Ipad tho. I feel like the ipad pro is for people who don't need MacBook pro's & don't want a Lap top. But, if they did Add some Macbook pro features, it'd obviously make it a more effective machine. Basically a unique machine w/ higher interest.

I'm keeping my 12.9 M2 Ipad but I'm currently a lot more happy with a lower spec Tab S9 ultra enjoying DeX desktop, playing Switch and all kind of demanding games on it while it struggles to keep up 😂

not a huge deal at all except you are the leader of a country or the boss of samsung, Tesla or similar. even then not an issue at all, it can be fixerd via update if needed but it's not really needed

I’m a little confused about giving iPads m4 vs giving their MacBook Pro m3…. That stuff confuses me. Honestly I would just want something with a great screen to watch movies and kdramas on 🤷‍♀️

It just confuses me that they recently released the m3 then just skip it to give the iPads the latest chip and not the MacBook pros. I think their lineup just confuses me. I’d honestly like an iPad mini if their screens were a bit better. I just watch everything on my m2 pro MacBook so I’m not interested in an iPad Pro I just don’t understand their products anymore.

So… when are you going to make it so you can make the multi windows stretch to the edge of the iPad so it’s not wasting space? When are you going to add a safe eject button for the external drives.. When are you doing to make it so IPAD CAN PLAY MULTIPLE MEDIA at the same time.. Ipad is great but it’s so held back by the soft ware.. I should be able to watch youtube and a video and work on something at the same time.. not only youtube..

Actually, the more I think about the comments, 14 minutes in, the more I’ll push my constructive criticism about disingenuous, basically you’ve got a piece of hardware that’s extremely powerful that it’s extremely difficult to use in a professional way in terms of file management and professional apps. Yes you’ve got the odd artist who wants to be able to draw on the surface but everybody else has got some serious work to do and I’m sorry the operating system does not allow it so those comments, quite irritating really because you’ve just told me that whilst the iPad format is ideal, which I agree, but then you go to tell me that I want it to be different, by that you mean awkward for file management and decent apps. Why would you think it’s acceptable to hamper the 90% of us that do not really use a pencil but benefit from this format. Currently the iPad Pro is for artists and for people who want to spend lot of money on a consumption device. You think you will cannibalise your MacBook sales, you might do a little bit but you’re absolutely sacrificing people like me who would’ve purchased the M1 and the M2 and the M4 as well as there larger MacBooks and studios. You’ve left a gap that I think Qualcomm and Microsoft will fill And you know what? It’s like, once I’ve moved, I’ll start investing in the ecosystem.

You’re pretty wrong about much of what you’ve said. Most of the sales of these are to people who understand what they’re used for and who do use it for that. And no, it’s not just a few. I use CAD, editing and other apps and it works very well indeed for those.

There are far more people like me than there are like you, I can’t use it for video editing, or photography as well as lots of basic file management and office tech programs and there are far more people like me than there are, like you and we are not being catered for.

@@Coatsey007 i didn’t miss your point. The Pro series aren’t for you, that’s the way it is. If you don’t need what it offers, then don’t buy it. If it doesn’t meet your needs, don’t buy it. I just don’t understand why some people complain that a product they don’t need doesn’t meet what they do need. Apple doesn’t expect to sell as many of these as they do less expensive models, which meets the needs of far more people. It’s specialized. If an iPad overall isn’t what you need, then don’t buy one. If a notebook, whether Mac or Windows better meets your needs, then buy that. Most people have both, some of also have a desktop. None of them meet all of our needs, so we have each. If you can’t afford, or don’t want to spend that much money, buy the one that comes the closest. It’s always a problem to decide what is the most useful. Would I like to see iPadOS improved? Of course. I’ve seen the iPad, from my first model in 2011, when they first came out, to this new M4 model, advance in hardware and OS. I expect to continue to see progress made. But what people who complain that the iPad is a tablet that acts like a tablet and not a notebook don’t realize is that they are more people who want it to be exactly what it is and don’t want it to become a notebook. Apple has to balance those customers and it’s not easy. So they try to add notebook OS features without angering these who want it to remain simpler. Let’s wait until June 10th and see what Apple has done this year before we continue to complain. That’s not much to ask. And if they’ve done nothing (other than to add AI in everywhere, which seems to be the big fad everywhere right now), then we can complain as much as we want.

Agreed and killed my desire to buy this as I would still need to take MacBook. Just had to do this on a trip and the weight sucks. I need 1 device. They can make this as thin and weightless but when you have to tote a MacBook Pro it’s a heavy combination.

These were none of my burning questions. Will fcp2 work with the m2ipad pro? Is Final Cut cam going to be hardware or software locked like most apple software today? Not a great interview.
