at least you can have modifications if you have proper paperwork to go with it... Here in France, modification is forbidden... there is some tolerance, so the risk to have a fine on the road with a police control is really low... but if you have a serious accident (like with other people involved badly), the expert will check the car and if modification, the insurance will say "yeah right, good luck with the bill, we are out" and you pay for the rest of your life if someone is disabled for example

Hi Sreten, love the videos. Just wanted to mention that on the LCI tail lights the ground pin had a tendency to get a bit melty when all the lights were on due to a bit of under engineering on BMW's part, crazy I know. Might be worth adding a thicker ground from the tail light to chassis ground.
@isaacchewey64223 жыл бұрын
I second this. major recalls on American E60’s for melting of the ground wire and the bulb housing done multiple myself. I think what it comes down to is the amperage load of the circuit changing with the running and brake light bulbs is too high for the small ground that was applied initially.

The problem with PPF on headlights is that, even though it looks perfectly clear to you, it can interact with the headlight beam and create glare and/or send light where it shouldn’t go. Really unfortunate there isn’t more thought into the longevity of these systems from manufacturers.
@Oo-IIII-oO3 жыл бұрын
We found the guy!
@michailangelopoulos56023 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Even a clear film will diffract the beam and create glare. It is forbidden to install clear window films on the windshield for the same reason. The headlights are precision optical devices that are designed to very tight tolerances. Especially with high output light sources such as HID or LED. The European spec is very strict regarding beam control and glare avoidance. This is the reason the DOT headlights had to go, as the antiquated US standard allows for a wider beam and higher glare.

Depends on the angle of the wrench handle to the head of the bolt. If it's 90deg directly to the side then the setting doesn't change. If it's in-line with the bolt (either on the short side or long side) then a 4cm offset crowfoot with a 500mm bar could alter a 140lbft setting to 129 or 152lbft. So yes, it matters, but not hugely.

I went thru all that with my E60. A couple of suggestions if I may: 1) I strongly advise you to use a crimping tool. If it is impossible - you need to solder the spot where the wire is “hugged” by pin fins. Just a drop of flux will do. I’m afraid you’ll have intermittent problems with your headlights, since it is impossible to crimp it right with pliers - the pin fins must be folded into wire and not just pressed around. It gonna have resistance there. 2) Never change “time criteria” without the real need - it can have bad consequences. To add LCI to VO all you need to do is to add official bmw lci retrofit code “+MUEB” to FA and default code the light module and CAS. That’s it. I suggest to put back the original time criteria. 3) Please protect the new headlights with clear film - you’ll thank me later. Ceramic coating will do nothing in terms of headlight protection. Been there, seen it. Oh, I needed to finish watching the video first - you’ve covered the topic regarding film - that’s sucks :(

As always great content and explanation of work you are doing. Your decision about paintwork is bang on. You bought this car to drive and mismatched paint isn't gonna leave you broke down on the side of the road!😉🤙You've had the right attitude with ALL the cars that you have had on your channel. Keep doing what you're doing. Always look forward to seeing what's "coming up"!

From someone who loves German car & guns...Germany is way too strict on so many rules. Wish they were like us in Canada. It's a beautiful place but with absolutely no freedom it can suck big time from my perspective. This make me gonna enjoy the small privilege we have way more lol Love the channel it keep making me push harder in my project. I've bought so many genuine parts lately but would still need a spare set of e36 clear sedan corner light if someone reads this can help me get a set from Europe.

On some headlights, if you apply PPF to the headlights and later try to remove/replace the film, there's a chance that the factory headlight coating will come off as well. Would be nice if they made it possible to replace the clear plastic component on headlights.

I had exactly the same approach to my old E34. The exterior and fiddly fixes weren't worth worrying about, just enjoy the car, see if it lives through the abuse I give it. Then a couple years ago a truck trailer gave it a real deep pinstripe along the side , the assessors mildly overquoted and I got mates rates on a new clearcoat job on the whole car out of it for 'free'. #winning
