Hindley House footbridge 1:06. Used to be a banana shaped bridge with steps. It used to link Ladywell Shrine with Hindley House off Midgery Lane before it was demolished a long time ago.

I did a similar video of this stretch in January 1994 when it was being widened. Longridge Road Bridge was demolished a few months before that.

If you still have a copy of that it would be amazing to see.

The video I recorded started on the M6 east of Broughton down to Junction 31 at Samlesbury and includes a bit of the A59. The motorway started off as normal but soon changed as we merged on the M6 near Durton Lane Bridge and what I mean by Durton Lane is section that goes towards Haighton. It crosses over the M6. The bridge was demolished in the summer of 1994. Part of the hard shoulder was used as a lane in my video. The video also shows part of the original abutment of the demolished bridge at Longridge Road. The abutment was scaffolded and was altered so it became a supporting pier for the new bridge. The new bridge at Pope Lane can be seen on the ground in tarpaulin ready to be lifted into place during an over night closure. I would imagine the tarpaulin was to protect a 2 pack paint system that was being applied to the bridge before being moved. You mentioned in another video that a bridge at Durton Lane was extended for the M55. The M6 crosses over Durton Lane twice and it’s the bridge that’s been demolished that is of interest to me. This bridge was supported on Trestle support piers and the section to the east side was new but supporting on a weathered support suggesting that the bridge decking may have been to short to allow the slip road of the M55 to merge successfully. I think the decking was lifted and longer decking was put in place. My video also shows discontinuity in the hard shoulder where the M6 passes over Fernyhalgh Lane and Fulwood Row as well as all the bridges. The slip road off the M6 southbound to go to either Preston or Blackburn was extremely short before it was remodelled. The video was recorded January 1994, five months before the remodelling at Tickeled Trout was completed. I have a few photos I took in may 1993 of the Longridge Railway Bridge hours before it was demolished. The demolition in fact took place over two nights. I got moved off the motorway by the contractor when I was photographing the demolition. I took the daytime photos in the passenger seat of my mates car with his SLR camera. 1000ASA speed film was loaded into the camera ready for the demolition at night. The section of M6 between Fernyhalgh Lane Fulwood and Pope Lane Ribbleton was one of my childhood haunts of the early 1980s. That’s how I got interested in the M6 in the first place. It used to freak me out when I heard motorbikes on the M6 from the house I lived in at the top end Watling St Road near Fulwood Row/ Gamull Lane in the early hours of the morning in summer. The sound of a motorbike on motorway sounded scary as the sound stays for ages. I heard similar comments online about this from people living close to motorways.

I still have the video. It’s on VHS C format. I borrowed the camcorder. I also have a second video from Fernyhalgh Lane to Longridge Road but the video was on foot and let’s say I strayed into territory that was off limits if you know what I mean. That 2nd video was recorded in April 1995. There was another guy who lived on a farm in Grimsargh who videotaped bridge demolition. He got good footage of Pope Lane Bridge being blown up. We were close to the rear of Redscar Industrial Estate. I haven’t seen him in very long time and non of his videos appear online.

Travel this stretch daily and didn't realise how much I didn't know that I now do from watching your video, particularly why the lighting was disabled. By the way, is your father Bill Buck?

If people live in Burnley or Blackburn and missed the M61, they could use this junction on the M6!

2+2 lane gain, quite unusual?
@BrynBuck
@BrynBuck 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, not all that common - there's another one on the M60 where the M56 joins in, and I think one of the slip roads around Heathrow brings two lanes onto a 3 lane carriageway of the M25.
