M7.6 Earthquake Strikes Mindanao, Philippines - December 2, 2023 Compilation / Linog sa Caraga

On 2 December 2023, at 22:37 PST (14:37 UTC), a magnitude 7.6 earthquake hit 21 km (13 mi) northeast of Hinatuan, Caraga, Philippines.Some houses were damaged in Agusan del Sur, where power was knocked out across the entire province. Power outages also occurred in Hinatuan. One person was treated in Cagayan de Oro after passing out from the earthquake.
Power outages and people passing out from the earthquake were also reported in Davao City.

Depende pa din yun sa intensity ng lindol at kung shallow ba o hindi. Kasi pwede mag register ng 7.5 magnitude tapos yung depth ng earth is 700km or so, mag swe-sway lang yun compare sa lindol na yung depth niya is 80km above yun yung mgs lindol na destructive talaga.

The nth aftershock last night is a 6 in Surigao del Sur. I was staying in Central Mindanao and it was intensity 3 from where I am. I've been to Hinatuan, Bislig and some coastal towns and Islands in Surigao del Sur, it was one of the most beautiful municipality I've ever seen. Right now, it's more than 600 aftershocks, so scary and residents evacuated their homes after returning.

There were power outages in Cabantian, Davao but Talomo was OK I think. I have friends there that have been in the earthquake zone their whole lives but this one really scared them . The main quake was magnitude 7.7 and one aftershock was 6.4 and about 15 more were in the 5 range. The sun will be up soon and we'll know more about what happened in Caraga.

Mindanao is home to several active fault lines. Although difficult to predict and natural powers difficult to avoid, if one were to build a house, his/her civil engineer must use the best possible, up-to-date, anti-earthquake technologies/strategies available in constructing such house. The government must regularly hold earthquake drills - especially those living along such fault lines. One-story structures are, obviously, safest. People must be ready to grab their last-minute safety kits, placed right next to the nearest exits, when such earthquakes suddenly happen. It's not avoidable, prayers can help, but drills must be held regularly. Remember: Mindanao is Earthquake Land. People of Mindanao: do what's best to minimize casualties to your families should an earthquake happen. God Bless. Keep safe.

Something is really happening in the region. My Quake Feed has been going off all day with large aftershocks and very often. It’s early Sunday morning where I am in California and I just got another alert from Quake Feed and it was the largest aftershock so far at 7.0 which is devastation in and of itself. Pretty scary amount of continuous activity.

4:37 that sudden blackout and blue lightning was caused by the earthquake. And also residents in Tagum City experienced earthquake lightning, after that there was this very loud noise of somekind of drums and loud music (from a disco?) we're heard in different parts of the city. When I searched what it was, Google said it was again caused by the earthquake. After the earthquake happened, strong tremors of aftershocks kept coming. We we're sleepless at that night. Morning after that, another tragedy happened. While a mass was ongoing in a gymnasium inside the university campus, a bomb exploded. Christians attending that mass were part of the casualties. This happened in MSU (Mindanao State University, located in Marawi). Most people in Marawi are Muslims and Christians.

With a magnitude 7.4 earthquake, I'm impressed that there were not much damage from the earthquake. I guess most buildings in the Philippines follow the building code! Good thing I haven't heard of any casualty yet, I hope everyone is safe!🙏

@@rm_alfaro you are right and I may add most homes are made of wood and light materials. And not too many buildings constructed of concrete. The duration of the quake is a factor to the extent of damage.. short time, less or no damage. Longer time, extensive. Hopefully no tsunami thatvl can destroy cities and farms.. tragic examples are the Fukushima quake and the Banda aceh quake which claimed 300,000 lives.. watch here on youtube.

Bear in mind every 1 full point increase in an earthquake represents a ten fold increase in it's destructive power. So a 7.6 quake is 10 times less violent than an 8.6 quake.

It is because most of the videos showed here where taken from Davao City which is 232 kms away from the epicenter. That is why the intensity isnt that strong. Intesity 8 was recorded near the epicenter.

I experienced this kind of earthquake, 1991 ata yun. Wala pa mga videos but thats how the trees shakes. The LRT w/c I saw from the window of my classroom is moving in wave motion. The Mama Mary statue is shaking angrily. Thats then I decided to leave the building. While holding the railings of the stair case. Some students fell cuz they were running and are not holding at the railings of the stairs. When we were at the open space the School Nuns asked to sit at the ground and pray the rosary. While praying after shocks can still be felt. Yes it’s really scary but you have to be relax and don’t panic. Cover first. After the first shake evacuate go to open space. Its a good thing we have a DST time. One hour ahead of real time. If not much more students and people would be hurt.
