Watching this video in early 2024 one can see how the way table tennis is played at the highest level really changed a lot since 2006! Less speed and reflexes and more focused on spin and control, more forehand oriented as well. Chila was the master of ball placement as well. Very entertaining game and interesting on an historical perspective as well.

Chila played like a 1970s Hungarian in 2006. Those loops were really effective - especially when he landed them towards the edge of the table on Ma Lin's rpb. When he tried to move round and play forehand counter loops from that position I just remember a string of errors. Never seen him struggle like that before. Forced him to be really precise in his placement. Great match to watch, and well played both.

Ma Lin almost made an incredible comeback in Game 3. Down 10-3, scored 6 in a row before falling short on the final game point, 11-9.

The match was a little uneven, neither player at their best. Chila had an unorthodox shakehand grip. As Coach of the French team, he's as intense as ever. Ma Lin, not so much.

I am french too and I feel embarrassed as well. And it happenned more than once 2:25 Maybe there were some context we don't know about? Like I remember there was a time when chinese used to choy on edges and nets :(

You can't do this with the polyball anymore. Also the rubbers are still not on even compared to glueing. It's amazing to see that Gauzy learned a lot from Chila regarding surprising spin and placement. Great match and really hard battle with no mercy. Good ol' times. And Ma Lin had incredible problems to win the match. Could have ended with Chila as the winner.

why is it that all french players have no class and sportsmanship. chila screams for nets and gauzy tries to fight people. france needs to get their act together

As much as I strongly regret these kind of behaviors as a french myself, nevertheless I find it very narrow minded from you to put a whole nation in the same basket. I can remember some videos of Ma Lin throwing his racket on the table as well and what about Wang Chu qin, Chen Weixing ? Should I generalize as well ?? Of course not.

Thomas Stein the french disproportionately have no sportsmanship. also i’ve seen several club videos of french leagues and the lower level players are no exception to ur world class representative players
