Ma Long did this intentionally, to at least somehow create the appearance of competition with European players.The Chinese are unconditionally leaders in table tennis, because no one can afford to drive hundreds of thousands of children from 3-4 years old into special schools for table tennis.

I suppose the experience played into that last set ... super impressive to get an 11-2 after losing 4-11. This shows the level of mental resilience Ma Long has.

Man… Can you see how many unforced errors done by Feliex …it’s around 8-9 shots And it’s only a 11 points game I DON T SUSPECT MA LONG S ABILITY BUT IN THIS CASE MA LONG REALLY DID NOTHING IN THE LAST GAME IE. No strategies changed No great serve. No fast rallies points So…..THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE IS ALEXIS MENTAL CONTROL I can t say Alexis could win over Ma Long ( perhaps he can if he overcome his problem) But at least he s able to challenge Ma Long to the last few points Like 10:9 10:8 etc … But not a 11:2 😅😅😅😅😅 And at last It’s quite a pity that Felix cannot remain in the final round to challenge Wang Maybe we can see that in the near future

not yet ... but it is getting harder for Ma Long. Felix Lebrun is getting better each tournament. The chinese staff should have recognized it and sure will react with some more "penholder-playing-units" for their top-players. Anyhow, Felix sure is on another level compared even from beginning to end of the year.

Felix can't make a scratch against some of the newer Chinese players like Wang Chuqin. Ma and Fan have been there for over a decade, and top coaches have already broken their style down. But Chiquin is yet to be analyzed. Therefore it's completely on the player to handle him, which is not easy

I feel Ma Long is playing to his highest level (taking a lot of his energy) only when he needs it. Crucial moment only. Because, he usually can beat most of his opponent without using all his tricks and burning all his energy. He needs to keep some for the final.

Malong a du bien s'employé pour battre Felix, malgré le score fleuve au dernier set qui lui assure la victoire finalement. A tel point que c'est rare de le voir s'encourager en criant dès le 4 eme set pour ne pas totalement perdre la face, c'est dire sur l'opposition qu'il a du ressentir en face... Il ne faudra pas attendre longtemps pour que non seulement Felix rentre dans le top 10 au classement des joueurs mondiaux, et remporte regulierement des victoires contre les joueurs Chinois du top 3!

That answered a very important question. Lebrun's backhand is very good, but still not quite up there at the top. Ma's backhand is as good as Lebrun's. And Ma can even pivot and use the forehand from the backhand corner.

Félix a fait douter Ma Long et c'est déjà pas mal. Il est jeune, probablement celui qui a le plus de potentiel par rapport à son frère ( je le trouve juste plus régulier qu'Alexis), son petit défaut pour le moment c'est de réagir comme un gamin en sautillant au sol lorsqu'il rage ou qd il recherche le regard de son coach. En gros controller ses émotions même si il arrive à se concentrer super vite. Beau parcours avec sa victoire dans le double au côtés d'Alexis !!! 🎉

for over 20 years the angle was vertical, can see all the action easily and the perspective slowed the ball down for us to follow, but since about 2 years ago, it was changed to horizontal or diagonal. Only a few countries still shoot vertically and give us some nostalgia.

Ma long had to use a few dark arts in that match. Most obvious was the slowing down of felix just before him serving. That coupled with a high variety of serving got Ma through that match. On open play felix was the more dominant though which will be very encouraging to him. Had felix kept his composure a little more in the last leg then I feel he may have actually won the match.

Not really ... Ben Shelton is not the right choice for Felix Lebrun. Ma Long also not for Novak Djokovic (well, there is no comparism for Novak right at the moment as Nadal and Federer almost or already have quit). If you want to compare Felix with someone you may have to choose Jannik Sinner. The potential of Felix Lebrun is incredible high - if there is one (European) player to "crack" Ma Long one day he is certainly the person to do so - but the "problem" may be that the chinese do already know - so we'll get another Timo Boll - issue ... (maybe).
