In the next 50 years, there is no one can match this level of Ma Long for sure. While Zhang Jike can't keep up with the new trend, Fan Zhendong, Lin Gaoyuan, Harimoto is on the rising stage. The Dragon shows how beautiful, table tennis, and table tennis tactics are. Some players just say "Oh, Ma Long is so strong. Because his forehand is so strong.". No! Not only his forehand but his variation, his service, match reading, his mentality, his chop block, his backhand control, is the best of the best. He is not the fastest. He is not the strongest. But he is the most intelligent player, right now. I don't like that Adam Bobrow just calls him "dictator, dictator", just simply call him "Ma Long". And explain why he is the best. Calling him "dictator, dictator" all the time is boring. This Tokyo 2020 is his last Olympics, but for me, Ma Long's style and intelligence show the true beauty of this sport. Thank you, Ma Long.

@@ad0d bc the new ittf ranking is based on how active you are. it only counts the wins you have it doesn't count the losses you take so it basically just shows who's the most active player

LJK was the sternest test yet, but ML, GOAT of GOAT's he is, simply upped the level even further. This was the first Superhero match. Two Chinese players at their max. Bit reminiscent ML/FB 2015. Ma in full flow. A beautiful, inhuman sight. The only athlete alive resembling perfection. Adam did a great job analyzing this match and Ma.

I personally didn't feel like LJK was at his best. He did set Ma Long on fire though with the resistance he put up, which speaks for how good a player LJK is. But he himself did not look as confident as I have seen him be. Nothing was particularly wrong with him, just he wasn't on fire the way Ma Long was.

I am always astonished by Ma long's ability to stay cool, control his opponent and his immense forehand shots. I wanted LJK to win so bad..but the thought of 3 straight WTTC champion excites me a lot. Unless Mattias pimple and backhand his way to victory (with Pearson assisting), there is no one to stop the dragon from taking his 3 consecutive titles. Go Ma long!

I was rooting for Liang, but Ma Long for all his hard work in table tennis deserves the title of the greatest of all time or at least in this modern era of table tennis. He has competed against great players like Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Wang Hao, Zhang Jike, Xu Xin, and now the new generation of Lin Gaoyuan, Liang JingKun and Fan Zhendong, and has a positive record against all of them. China has so many talented and hard working players it makes me sad that just a few of them would become world champions. After that South Korea and Japan impress me in their commitment in cultivating young talent. Europe seems to lack way behind in cultivating young talented players with only Sweden giving the chance to younger players... In the time that China changed 3 generations of players from Kong Linghui and Liu Guoliang to Zhang Jike in the European scene I see the same names of Timo Ball and Vladimir Samsonov at the top. It doesn't speak well for the future of european table tennis...

Massive luck for LJK with the edge ball at 11-10 but still couldn't take down ML. ML is looking even better than he was in WTTC 2017. He is almost as good as he was in WTTC 2015. If ML win 4-0 in the final tomorrow, that will be the most impressive performance at WTTC since the 11 points scoring system adapted.

ML in 2015 was also this impressive until the final and was only being challenged a little bit in the final by Fang Bo with some of the best rallies I've ever seen. If ML win the final easily like 4-0 or 4-1 then perhaps I would think his performance is better than in 2015.

@@jberger94 Although I agree with you that people should talk about only the match in the video and not other matches because it could potentially spoil the matches for others, I'd suggest you to login on ittf.com to follow the matches live because we can't really stop people from talking and they're not wrong either, because matches are uploaded here a long time after they actually take place so the results are already out hours before the KZbin upload. I, too, got many spoilers like these after which I decided to just watch them live at ittf.com and the site's interface isn't that bad either. You'll enjoy watching matches there.

Agreed, Ma Long just lost the previous set so he was feeling the pressure. He lead the whole time until LJK came back with some impressive points, but Ma Long prevailed in the end. This brought him more confidence to win the match definitely. if he lost that set, LJK probably wouldn't have been as nervous as he was in key moments.

The first set was crucial! Liang started 5-1 and then Ma Long won the set 11-8.

What a difference if we are comparing a pre-2013 Ma Long to the current Great Ma Long. The skills are pretty much the same or should I say the pre-2913 Ma Long had more power but the mental toughness is way off the chart in favor of today's Ma Long. He fed a lot of balls to the short right of Liang while so calm in long rallies. I just cannot disagree with Mr. Ma Long being the perfect and humble champion.

We can see that there are rallies, but not so often and not so long. And it is important, that rallies are possible only in matches of world top class players. In other matches of professional players, there are not rallies. For example, just watch the group matches in this tournaments, and you can see that very bored matches without rallies and with very short ball exchanges in any episodes. . Because these stupid BUTTERFLY HEAVYWEIGHT BALLS ARE SO FAST TO REACT. It makes table tennis to become less popular. This match could be more exiting and breathtaking if lightweight balls were used. Why heavyweight balls fly so quick ? Because air resistance can not effectively slow down heavyweight objects. Air resistance can only effectively slowdown lightweight objects. For example, you can not easily make lightweight paper balls to fly quickly. Players will have more time to react and apply various techniques. So, to earn points, you must challenge players to run around the yards , then you can earn points. It calls athletic skills, which always warn audience. That is what we see in breathtaking exiting rallies in the past of table tennis. I explain why some manufactures specially make heavyweight balls, even thought heavyweight balls kill table tennis popularity and attractiveness. Players have trends to quickly finish rallies with less efforts. So many players love to make devastating fast balls to finish rallies. Of course, heavyweight balls are IDEAL TO QUICKLY FINISH RALLIES. And manufactures want to lure these lazy players to buy their heavyweight balls. Yeah shortsighted profit is the reason to make heavyweight balls to lure lazy players. Theses BUTTERFLY HEAVYWEIGHT BALLS MUST BE BANNED IN NEXT WORLD TABLE TENNIS EVENTS. Just try other lightweight balls, for example chinese lightweight YINHE balls, and you will see and feel ball controls and rallies. ITTF increased the ball size to try to slowdown speed, but ITTF does not reduce ball weight. So we see that heavyweight balls now fly quicker than in the past. It shows that majors ITTF heads are bad knowledge . It is one of the most reason why table tennis loses attractiveness since new heavyweight balls introducing. Do you remember full audience halls in the past ? Do you remember very often long rallies in the past ? . But now, rallies are rarely . So some major ITTF heads should retire now, so that new knowledge heads can apply the new rules to reduce and restrict ball weight. IDEAL BALL WEIGHT SHOULD BE UNDER 1.5 GRAMS .
