Tony, I love you. It would have taken my prof 100 hours to make me understand these concepts and on my own about 1000 hours. You did it in 11 minutes. You are amazing!

I found the way my accounting textbook explained this concept to be rather frustrating--none of the illustrations made sense, and it didn't directly define what process and job order costing meant. This video clarified everything and made it far easier to understand. Thank you!

I’ve found the best way to express the concept of the first indirect costs to worry about is to talk about bottlenecks. Like if I’m renting a huge seating restaurant space I’m only using 40% of, until I hit capacity I may not need to worry about it until I grow sales by over 100%, in which case trying to think about rent as being applied to every burger is a wasted mental exercise. But if I have a freezer that’s stocked to 95% capacity, with little excess stock, THAT might need to have an indirect cost applied or at least be generally cognizant that if you try to grow, THIS is going to be your first problem. What do I call this… “functional” job costing? The importance of knowing a fixed cost and bottlenecks vs a variable cost is incredibly important for how you grow/market/plan.

Tony did you do a job costing on this KZbin channel? How many cost allocation pools did you have? I guess food for working would be an indirect cost. Some of your indirect costs would be electricity, camera, computer, or headphones. Obvy you did do some calculations before makeing the channel, and it must be paying off well played, great videos as well, really enjoy your accounting enthusiasm. Cheers

Haha - thanks! No I didn't do job costing - reason being - I already owned all of the equipment I needed - and I had no real way to calculate the incremental electricity cost. So the main cost was really just my free time.... Job order and process costing is more useful for companies that have employee wages and direct materials! Fun question :)
