"Mabuhi ka GWEN"

Finale number from the Sinulog Special performed by the CPDRC inmates on January 18, 2008.
My innocent plan for my sister to dance with the inmates on her birthday would somehow set another world record. It was a unique way of celebrating her birthday. The dynamic Governor Gwendolyn Garcia celebrated her birthday in dance -- not with a dance instructor -- but with prison inmates. It was like a scenario of a swan dancing with lions, a peacock prancing with wolves or a princess romancing with a beast. This is yet a phenomenon that no official of the land has ever done worldwide, ever since. For where in the world has there ever been a government official danced with 1,500 hardened criminals? A criminal by any name is still a criminal, a prisoner by any name is still a prisoner and a governor by any name is still a governor. For a governor to be seen in the company of prisoners, dancing and enjoying herself is no movie. It is no thriller, it is not a dream, but for those who witnessed that event, including me, would say - it is thrilling to watch.

Good Job...I wonder what is the avarage age here in this prision? It seems so incredible to see that they are paying time for their wrong doing and yet still can have fun. We still need to remember that these men are in prision for a very violent felon and will be locked up in there for a long time. This program seems to keep them fit and strong. I'm sure they have learned what they have done and I hope they can share that part for others to learn and not to make that same mistake nice to see.

I got this funny picture in my head, of the people who run this jail making the people under sentence audition to see if they're good enough to be in this jail. x_x I'm terrible.. But at the same time, you guys look so coordinated! Awesome. ^-^

There is no prison in this whole world that leader of the island can mingle with what they called dangerous criminals, only in the island of Cebu in the Philippines,,,for me this inmates are not dangerous at all. They realised that with their (inmates) life can be more meaningful by doing such good deeds,,,ma buhay kayo mga preso sa Cebu.

i agree with u.. sinulog is originated in Cebu..but it was copied from Aklan Ati-atihan..a religious festival about the aboriginal aetas and the spreading of christianity in the island..thats include drumming and dancing..

to be private of your liberty is suficient punishment for somebody to be with his own concience is just what i think i dont have that experience and for sure dont want it so trying to reform people with activities for me is a great option!

Wow Gwen you amaze me!I like you already! I wish you can visit my place here in Enköping Sweden. My friends they are Swedish were so amazed, they couldn't believe that a jail could organize such entertainment. I told them, "Only in da Philippines"!!! We are very proud Filipinos...I myself been in jail when I was only a teenager for at least a couple of times. BUt Sweden do good for me. And this time maybe I tell the jail here to maybe organise something like CPDRC... I luv you GUYS!!!CEBU

"what area are you from?" so ppl get a grip! sinulog originated in CEBU hence the song... it's celebrating STO NINO... a religious festival... so put ur petty thoughts behind you... cebuano's are proud to be cebuano and a part of a city that who are proud to be filipino.

Hello Byron! Welcome Enköping Sweden You remember? in the 1980's this dance steps of "Tonight" was very known by Cebuana dancers all over Cebu specially up their in the mountain of MASABA CANTABACO. VISIT OUR PLACE you would be amaze tooo. This disco music was so popular up there in the mountain that all villagers dance at the public disco at the same move!!! Can you imagine that? theyre actually doing the right thing. If an invading army provides the city they have invaded with evrything then the city wont rebel. same thing with prisons.
