I feel like the effects on mac's version give you an unmistakably nostalgic feeling, like summer and your parent's days. but the clapton version amazes me with his solo, which is a stellar demonstration of his talent, and the jazzy ? bluegrass? ish feel he adds makes the song interesting. tl;dr : both are good covers

This comment section is just awful. You are just awful. It's a good cover, but you gotta think about a few things. He didn't release it, and I haven't seen footage of it live so it's not like Mac LOVED it. Another thing is, it's all subjective. Mac is like 25? Eric made this song in the late 80's so he was what pushing on 50? Age doesn't really matter but Clapton was running out of ideas and had been doing the poppier stuff for so long that if he had done it any other way it wouldn't have made it through his record company. Another point, how are you actually gonna say Mac is a better guitar player? Clapton played with SRV, Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Page, and any other great guitar player of the last 60 years and could rival them all. Another point, you're all forgetting about Cream, Eric's third band with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. That band was really the first band to do the psychedelic guitar music successfully. Without them bands like The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, and these other bands wouldn't have had the balls to release trippy records (Cream weren't the first playing it but they were the first to release an album and have it chart in that genre). Also, Clapton in the late 80's was on this downward spiral of alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. The dude was SMACKED for EVERY song on EVERY record. I like Change The World but I'm sure Eric didn't even remember the sessions for it, just another daze to fight through. So stop hating on Eric like he did a bad version of a Mac song or something. I bet in a few years when Eric passes (he's 73) the people in this thread will be the same people who cry out about how the world lost a legend. This version made me want to do two things. One being never talk to other Mac fans and two, listen to Clapton.
