Thanks man! They are indeed nylon coated strings. Short scale, medium gauge nylon tapewounds by D'Addario. I think they also make long scale strings if that's what you're looking for. Thanks!

Thank you! It's called a string mute, it just prevents open strings from ringing too much if you accidentally hit a string you don't mean too. It's not super important but just makes it sound a bit cleaner if you're still a messy player like me

I believe its a starts with the first fret on d string, slide from 1st to 3rd on g string, then 3rd to first on d string again

If you're debating getting one, just get one. It helps you appreciate music so much more. Some aspects of bass are easier than guitar such as getting started, but trust me, bass is a difficult instrument.
