I'm not quite sure why, but somehow this song always "gets me where I live!" You paint such a great picture of your hometown and the vibe hits deep! Thanks for the great music and sharing it with all of us!!!

Are you kiddin me , Mississippi boy , baptist raised . Mississippi may not contribute a lot in some folks eyes but what we do produce in the literary and musical arts is pure creme folks pure creme. It floats straight to the top. Where would any of us be without the likes of BB King, Elvis, Faulkner, Jerry Klower, Eudora Welty , Jimmie Rogers (the singin brakeman).Yeah. Just off of the top of my head. And today from John Grisham on one end and Mac and Faith Hill in the middle qne Greg Isles on the other end Like Mac says , our main export is spare time. We spend a lot of that spare time on the front porch writin and singin. Storytellin. Yeah. It's a lifestyle in the South. Especially Misippi. Yeah Misippi. It is a two syllable word not a four. just like Nawlins (New Orleans) is a one syllable word not a three . Listen to how Mac says it . That is the native tongue. People from New Orleans ,( and pretty much all in south Louisiana) say Nawlins and not New Or leans. It's hot in the deep south specially on the Misippi river. We don't waste air on 4 syllables when we can say it in one or two. This guy is a prophet man. Listen to his lyrics. From "The trouble with diamonds ", to" Socrates" to " Still life without you". Mac has matured like a fine wine. Or more like a fine wiskey. Not to forget " Its my job" or "Down the road" .... prophet , prophet to the bone. I remember seeing him in an interview at least 30 years ago. He said that a friend once asked "Hey Mac when Jimmy Buffet records one of your songs, don't you make like a million dollars or somethin? " To which Mac replied " Well, lets put it this way. I only eat govenrment cheese now when I have a taste for it." Yeah! Vintage MacAnally. We are proud of our native sons.Jimmy Buffet is another shining star. Watching humility and greatness. Just what God intended. Around a half a dozen times musician of the year , songwriter hall of fame inductee. produces super stars............again just off the top of the head. He will be the first to tell you what a fortunate rewarding life he has had. He doesn't take it for granted. Southern intellectual. It doesn't get any better than that. Yeah

Reggie Crawford my feelings exactly! I was born not too far away in New Albany, MS a Southern Baptist Preachers kid back in 55. Folks there have deep feelings and yet most don’t even know how to express them but a few like Mac. Well and the many others you listed...

Alabamian fits the song too and lots of places can be substituted in the lyrics. Genius writing Mr. Mac because for everything negative thing you can think to say about any place there is tons of positive things to counter that with. I love MS too.

Saw him live in New Orleans on Halloween night a few years at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. Best live show I have ever seen. Small crowd of about 100 people or so. To Canadian to ask for an autograph on his CD.

Allen Dunsmore ~ I'm having deja vu: perched in a little club or pub with an incredible singer/songwriter just a few feet in front of me. Guy Clark, Peter Rowan, Willis Alan Ramsey... Those small venues whose owners revere _and book_ world-class live music have enriched my life for decades.

Allen Dunsmore I’ve known Mac since 1978. He has a house in Sheffield, Alabama. When Erin got married here, Jimmy Buffett and others came down for the Sheffield Street Party. Our kids went to school together. He’d have gladly signed an autograph for you! He’s exactly who you’d want him to be!
