I gotta agree with skaterspwn, man. I work for a data recovery firm located just south of Cincinnati. You get that bass pumping and it's going to mess with the read/write heads in the drive. Solid state drives are pricey but for a true media center Mac in your Tahoe, you'll want to get one.

This is a good point, the magnetic balance of regular harddrives is likely to be thrown off by not only the typical g-forces of a car in motion, but all the vibration from the soundsystem. Changing parts in that little locked up thing is going to be next to impossible though. :(

did u own a mac before? if u didnt ur not gonna regret that purchase! best purchase u could have ever made! only one thing isnt it gonna get all f'd up with all the vibrations in the car? the hdd may mess up or something cuz i've seen how ur dash moves and i dont know if a computer is gonna handle that much movement...

Keep a good backup of this thing because as hard as you bump I would not be surprised if you go through hard drives really fast on this. Sector errors probably. You may have to convert the mac mini to an SSD Drive.

Thats sick as man when you put the headdeck in is it going to be hooked up to the mac? or independent? and yea i would consider upgrading the harddrive in the mac to a solid state drive other wise the base might crash the mac?

Yes. If you're talking to me. You STILL should run iTunes through Mac OS X since the computer is made by Apple, the OS is made by Apple, and iTunes is made by Apple. There's no need for windows.

that must be the sickest thing i have ever seen in a car man. but just a question... u said "so the comuter (mac) wont turn off when i switch the key off". Does that mean that the computer will be on 24/7? Or will you switch it off and on when u want. If yu keep it on, it would start to drain your battery after some time...

Steve, I'm getting back into car audio after about 8-10 years out. What are the benefits of the computer (mini mac) as a head unit? Don't you lose a lot of sound quality compared to the high end cd units like P99 and Drz9255? What other applications can you use the computer for?

you can use the Itunes Remote with the Iphone over WiFi. In Appstore the tool is called Remote, try it ;)

Isn't there just a regular 2.5" (laptop size) HDD in it? Then u just need to buy a regular laptop SSD. If Apple hasn't put som weird restrictions in the Mac so it refuses to boot with non-Apple customized SSD. Who knows?

Less experiEnced users look at a mac and see a simpler interface. But the smart people know how to use a Mac in Terminal and X11, while still having an easy to use interface for both new users, and users that have been with Macs since they were 5 (like me).

if your gonna mostly use windows u should put on vmware instead of parallels. you can run both OS's at the same time or just boot straight into windows for better performance.

Indeed. Mac is ok but its ideal for MEDIA only. Games? No way. So to have a mac as a main source unit is the way to go, since it has an awesome designed UI.
