I think ive got a mac mini mid 2007 core 2 duo somewhere in storage, my parents bought me and my brother them about a week after the mid 2007 was released, in December 2009 the hard drive failed, my parents bought me a new computer and the mac mini went in storage, I've got a sata laptop drive out of a old MacBook that had a logic board fail so I might salvage the drive format it through my brothers mac mini and install tiger and make a video about it, so many memories with that machine, my 2nd mac as I have a iBook G4 late2004 and I think its time the mini came out of storage.

The cool thing about this Mac Mini is that it can run 10.3 10.4 and 10.5
@nelizmastr3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and with a special ISO it can even run OS 9.2.2 :)

When I hook up mine to my TV it says no signal would that be the hdmi cord
@nelizmastr9 жыл бұрын
+Isaac Saccary The Mac Mini G4 doesn't have HDMI, and adapting the DVI to HDMI probably won't work unless you use an active adapter.

is it possible to upgrade this device to Core2Duo compatible motherboard, and whether there is where to buy it ?
@nelizmastr8 жыл бұрын
It's cheaper to just get a Core Solo Mac Mini instead and upgrade the CPU in that to a Core 2 Duo.

how to build nas base mac mini g4

It’s too slow for that and it only has 100mbps ethernet, so file transfers are limited to 10MB/s. Not worth the hassle. If you want it because it’s all you have, add external harddrives, and create shared folders. Then add those folders to the computers over the network.

If I get one of these (1GB RAM, 1.4ghz) will it be slow at all? I'd mainly use it for video editing via motion 5, is their any distinct advantages to buying the 2014 model? Also, does this mac mini support wirless mouse/keyboards? Through bluetooth. It's just that this mac mini is £92, whilst the 2014 model is £400
@nelizmastr10 жыл бұрын
Motion 5 requires the following: OS X v10.9.2 or later 4GB of RAM (8GB recommended for 4K) OpenCL-capable graphics card or Intel HD Graphics 3000 or later 256MB of VRAM (1GB recommended for 4K) This Mac Mini has a PowerPC CPU, so not Intel, so it won't ever run anything newer than OS X 10.5.8, 2nd of all, it can only support up to 1GB of memory, where 4GB is required. Also, the GPU isn't OpenCL capable, it's just a Radeon 9200M 64MB GPU which doesn't even support CoreImage (for OS X transparency and such). PowerPC applications ceased to be supported in 2009, so any app after that will be 99.9% unlikely to run on an ancient single core machine like this. These make very efficient file servers though. The 1.5Ghz model has airport and bluetooth built-in, in the others these are both optional. I'd go with a 2011 Mini. Has an i5 sandy bridge mobile CPU and if it has 4GB of RAM, you have your optimal starting point. I hope this helped :)

nelizmastr Thanks man, I'll be saving up for the newer model :D

Sure thing :) - Many people don't know that PowerPC and Intel are vastly different and they get a G5 expecting the latest and greatest to run on it. Such a shame.

+nelizmastr I got a question, could I run xcode on one of these (and publish apps)
@nelizmastr9 жыл бұрын
For iOS 1 and 2 maybe. Nothing newer. For iOS8-9 you will need a much more current Mac.

where can i get a power cord for this
@nelizmastr7 жыл бұрын
You need the entire adapter/power brick. They can be found on eBay or craigslist etc. they typically fetch more than the Mac Mini G4 is worth at this point, so I'd personally recommend to grab an Intel version instead.

Depends on which version of OS X you're running. 512-768MB is fine for Tiger, but Leopard needs that 1Gig.

+hidde1626 i like how your almost bragging about your 2015 with two GB of RAM. LOL that is pitiful these days, 4-8gb is a must for doing any real tasks or multiple simple tasks. I'm sure you payed 1000$+ for those 2gb. hahahahaha
