I was just thinking the same thing. The parents, I think they both are still alive so they could be the grandparents. I think it would be very cute if it was done right in the same style. The problem is, we don’t have John Hughes to write it, and make sure it is filmed in the same style. Not sure if Chris Columbus would come back on board and do a new one. That and I think John Hughes family still owns the ultimate rights to these films he did. So, I don’t know if it could be done even if they wanted it to be. Kevin didn't call the police because he thought he was a wanted criminal for stealing the toothbrush. When he finally did call the police he did it from the neighbor's house (pretending to be the neighbor). Home Alone 2 however, he has absolutely no excuse to not call 911 right away except for wanting to torture Harry and Marv EDIT- I'm now realizing they kind of TRIED to give him an excuse in HA2:LINY by having the concierge threaten him with the police for "stolen credit card" but it's a much flimsier set up compared to the first one. He was "defending" Duncan's Toy Chest, not his own house and ended up calling 911 from a pay phone in the park, plus he signed the note he threw through the window with his own name.
