As a fan of theater and the Scottish play it is so great that you made this accessible for students. My high school kids are becoming fans of the Bard and theater in general, because this is a PLAY not just something to be read in their classes. We are from a disadvantaged school, so going to a theater is near impossible. Plus with Covid this year...yikes. Thank you so so much!

Love that they made Macb likable from the beginning. Makes the mental free fall feel earned. I’m not sure how I feel about these costumes, I got a pirate vibe for a while-but generally weren’t super flattering. I know being “flattering” isn’t the goal of costuming but it was just my observation. King Duncans costume is awesome though, I love it.

The line of Lady Macbeth where she madly and fervently screams...."THEN WE FAILLLL.....!" IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST ACTING PERFORMANCE I HAVE EVER WITNESSED IN MY LIFE AND I AM A BONIFIED Thespian with pretty ridiculous standards and expectations of theatre....but this woman could not have preformed the madness, rage, and manipulation of this character, or any other character, and better than this woman did here. It has left a lasting impression on my psyche I will never forget. Flawless perfection. She deserves fame and fortune. Macbeth was really great too, the whole cast, but she was soul shaking. That temporary suspension of disbelief almost became permanent. Amazing show sister! Beyond words!

Omarelezaby 0J4GZ3 I can dude - as I’m sure you have to watch this for a homework assignment. In Part I, Macbeth is upset that his mom has married his uncle so soon after his mother’s death - he might even be feeling symptoms of depression. He devised a scheme to trick the uncle into revealing his guilt by staging a play of ‘Pyramus and Thisbe’ - all you really need to include in your essay about that play is that it relates to the main theme of a wealthy man from Athens who suddenly finds himself friendless when he (they) realize he’s broke. In Part II, two gentlemen of Verona beat up a Jewish man named Shylock and try to sell a pound of his flesh to Macbeth, who mashes it up and feeds it to a woman named Tamora. Macbeth thinks Lady Macbeth consumes poison and killed her self (extra points from your teacher if you related this to Macbeth’s depression from Part I), and so thinking he decides to kill himself, too. But he misses and kills some other guy named Benedick, who understandably gets upset. Macbeth despairs and then decides to hell with it all when all of a sudden a bear enters the scene and chases him off. Curtain. I hope that helps, dude. Good luck with your essay.

I have seen maybe a dozen performances of Macbeth yet none I'd say completely good (maybe the first rep performance left the lasting impression). Yet this first half was pretty impressive in many ways; interesting in others (like the intercutting dialogue adaptations which mostly worked); and a bit cut-down in others, which can be a bit painful in an already cutdown play (probably from historical censorship). Not sure the witches entirely worked, and you surely cannot omit "Fly, good Fleance, fly!" without harm, but the performance was pretty excellent in making the Macbeths egging each other on seem authentic and organic. This performance was unusually adept at bringing out the humour (often awkward juxtaposition) in the play, as well as having some proper sense of violence. Really good portrayal of the often quite extreme emotions of the play. Looking forward to the second half. Still, where are Macbeth's wounds (they're not in the play)? And when is Lady 'my battlements' Macbeth going to be portrayed as a castelaine and not as a lady-in-gown?

There are so few female parts available on stage and in film as it is, I am sadly surprised that the Weird Sisters parts were given to men.
@ryandepp76404 жыл бұрын
That’s more historically accurate. In Shakespeare’s time, women were not allowed to act in plays so female characters would be played by men dressed in costumes and makeup
@cross53964 жыл бұрын
@@ryandepp7640 in shakespeares time they also castrated pre-pubescent boys so they would keep their high pitched voices (for choir or opera usually). we dont castrate men to play those old roles. because macbeth isnt being performed in shakespeares time, historical accuracy isnt a strong reason for it to be all male.
@filmclub76194 жыл бұрын
@@cross5396 I agree that finding ways to cast women in more roles in Shakespeare is super important to representation, but I felt the choice to cast the witches as men was supported textually. In their description they have “beards” and they cant make out if they are men or women. Also the castration of young boy for the purpose of them keeping their high voices was NOT a practice in theatre in London. It was a practice in church choirs, however. It is a myth that actor boys were castrated.
@cross53964 жыл бұрын
@@filmclub7619 i know that, i SAID "in shakespeares *time* they also castrated pre-pubescent boys so they would keep their high pitched voices *(for choir or opera usually)*" i dont see why the beards line would preclude women either, in fact itd support it more if it was women wearing fake beards. why would men wearing beards be more ambiguous than women wearing beards?

Because the Weird Sisters speak in verse, I believe that in the play's OP "heath" and "MacBeth" should rhyme. I think they should be pronounced with the long a vowel as in "hate". I Googled around but couldn't find any direct confirmation of this. On the heath, grows heather--which should be pronounced as "hey there".

This isn’t bad, an above average production, to be sure. Minor criticism- the script editing(omissions) was highly ill-advised, as the play is short enough to begin with and gathers steam(pace) as it moves forward. Also, some of the actors consciously PUNCHING certain words smacks a bit of pandering , of amateurism….and some others seem to’ve never heard of a fourth wall, and ought to try it sometime, as that’s what creates real life, real human beings actually interacting, rather than making speeches to the audience….🙏🎭
