To my mind Macc Lads were ripping lad culture to shreds, but as someone who's never been a drinker, hates drink, hates pubs & hates being surrounded by drunks, I could never know for certain! All I do know is that I found the early stuff to be massively funny. I think Muttley's Sun T-shirt, not long after Rupert sacked all the printers and around the time of Hillsborough, confirmed to me it was a brilliant joke. Still listen to the Beer & Sex & Chips & Gravy album even now.

went to Bears head in late 80s and saw the man monster who is Ben Nevis and he was huge . Also was a bouncer at the gigs . The Macc Lads are LEGENDS .

pjvenner Nah...it was Al O'Pesha; their roadie/publicist/occasional guitarist. Al would deliberately ring up local radio stations on the day the Maccs were due to perform there, and play the role of 'Concerned of ...." and say what a rude wild lot the band were. This drove fans and the curious to immediately go and get tickets, ensuring a sell out show, and make sure the boys made the papers. Nothing new...Ozzy admitted to similar pranks when he toured the US in the 80s 😂

It was a response to "This rubbish music came from the same town as Joy Division." i was just pointing out that the Macc Lads are not what you would typically call a serious group. They're just having fun and getting paid very little for doing it. Whereas Joy Division (JOY LOLOL) were the exact opposite. A comercially viabale group selling millions of records, get lots of airplay, and making lots of money. Yet my underlining point still stands. Their music is miserable, uninspiring and serious.
