I don't know if you guys actually read these comments, but I'll pretend. Today was my first genuinely good day after months of depression and anxiety. I didn't think about hurting myself or others while depressed, so I never sought help, but I laid around for days, doing nothing and trying not to think. For the last week, though, I've listened to this song before getting out of bed- and I'm not myself again, but I know I'll get there. I'm just happy that I have this song to make it easier.

I LOVE this song and love the Maccabeats work!! I listen to it even when we arn't in this season of Ha SHem's appointed season. Nonetheless, I have to smile broadly watching this. Most of the the "choices" that were changed is simply "not being a selfish pig" Think of others. They are simply good manners . Simple common courtesy. Like common sense, both are getting rarer and rarer! Thanks for this video, we need grounding at least once a year!

Is it me or does it look like the guy at 2:25 is married to a teenager? She does not look older than 20, haha. And yes, married, because orthodox Jews don't date in any conventional sense and do not eat meals one-on-one with people of the opposite sex. I love this video, though, because it shows these people living normal lives and interacting in the secular world and everything and it has a great digestible message.

Haha, that is true. They are not aloud to socialize one-on-one with their cousins (so I suppose going the WVa road to romance is out) but they are aloud to socialize one-on-one with their siblings. Orthodox Judaism is super weird but I met these guys when they came to perform in my town and they're pretty cool..
@anneliseholwerda46811 жыл бұрын
okonh0wp I think Orthodox Judaism is cool and amazing, I'm very thankful for it! I'm not Jewish but... I know it takes some understanding to really know what they're doing and why... but it's truly a treasure in this world :)
@okonh0wp11 жыл бұрын
I think some sects of Orthodox Judaism (Modern Orthodox, which is what most of the Maccabeats would define themselves as) are great and should be praised, but there is a dark side to some of the other sects and I even think they're dangerous (unpious dot com has some good accounts of this). I also don't think I'm like a bad or illegitimate Jew for not following all 613 of the commandments to the letter like they do
@anneliseholwerda46811 жыл бұрын
okonh0wp There are definitely problems in the Jewish community, but Orthodox Judaism itself is in my experience a blessing. This is where you'll find people who are unwilling to compromise on the commandments because they want to be that close to Hashem, and it shows very deeply in their lives and their families, even though it's so counter-cultural. Not all ultra-Orthodox Jews are racist or hypocritical, and many... a few of whom I've met, and the people around them... make me realise that I want to live like that as well. You kind of have to see how precious it is in their lives, in their families, and the blessing it is to countless people around them, to get that. Modern Orthodox Jews also believe in keeping the commandments, which to me makes sense because if they're from our Creator then they pretty much matter... but I know it's complicated/hard. I'm really considering becoming Jewish and I wouldn't do so unless I meant to really keep the laws and even the relevant customs of whatever community I was serving Hashem with and within. Anyway, I think that Modern Orthodoxy loses A LOT in its ultra-leniency, but also one of my teachers whom I respect extremely deeply and learn a lot from is closer to MO for a number of important reasons in his life. Thank God that you guys have this ongoing conversation about how to best turn your intentions in actual actions of what is right and not what is wrong in each detail, in the big picture. Even though we may only know in the future what was the best thing to do now, may He bless it now already!
