Brother, you are RIGHT ON THE MONEY with this comment. Fred Wesley came out of the Army expecting to go to New York and become a Jazz trombonist, but he was broke and needed work so a friend (Pee Wee Ellis) told him that James Brown was hiring. Fred auditioned for The Godfather and basically thought the man was insane. He said James Brown didn't understand the structure of music and Fred really wasn't happy about the idea of playing the kinda groove melodies that JB created, but he needed the work so he stayed. Well, the rest is history. James Brown proved to be a GENIUS and created a whole new formula for music (The One), where the band hit its hardest notes on the ONE count of the groove and now we have a new world order. But you already knew this. I know you knew this because your comment reflects the love and loyalty you have for James Brown and his Funky Discliples. There's only one thing I disagree with in your comment and I hope you will edit it for me: Since Pee Wee Ellis is the one of the most legendary sax players to ever live and was the man that introduced Fred Wesley to James Brown and Maceo, I think you will agree that we must honor his name by Capitalizing the "P" and the "W". Right? Brother, you are a real one. Stay Funky.

I love 💕 Tower of Power, the Memphis Horns, Earth, Wind & Fire horns, Chicago, Cameo and Brass Construction too, but no horns section in the history of the world even comes close to the Mighty JBs. That's because, with the leadership and direction of the Legendary James Brown, the JBs literally INVENTED Funk. Though Fred Wrsley, Maceo and Pee Wee were trained horn players, James Brown taught them how to forget about the horn parts of a song and instead, make the horns an intricate part of the groove. The JBs were not the accompaniment of the groove.... THEY WERE THE GROOVE ITSELF!

OMG, you are sooo right. People have no real understanding of just how incredible and how original these musicians were. They pack auditoriums and stadiums for copycat acts like Beyonce' and Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Cardi B., yet overlook the very foundation of music when they fail to attend these amazing concerts. They have no idea that these were the musicians that honed their craft under the tuteledge of the Mighty James Brown and created the very essence of Funk. It's sad that today's music fans have no clue what"music" really is.
