Before I start my essay, I just want to congratulate you for the amazing work you did on this one. The song was perfect, and the way you cut from Mac to Riley was amazingly done. With that out of the way, i'm now going to bombard you with my meaningless verbosity. Our beloved Jack Dalton finally met his end, and this episode had the nearly impossible job of honoring his memory. Even though our great terrorist was taken down with such apparent ease and didn't seem as threating as he was made out to be, honestly I don't know if they could do that after Codex, we were shown the Jack we came to love and respect. Putting his life on the line for the sake of others, not backing down in front of the challenges, never forgetting the family he had to leave behind, and always talking about the two people closest to him. He may have failed in talking down Kovac and dying for it, but he didn't fail to display his character. He was, once again, the head and protector of his team. With his life he saved the lives of the hostages, and with his death he brought down a renowned terrorist. We may have not have the pleasure of seeing him, but we were given a huge taste of who he really was and his death showed us exactly how much he meant to everyone he knew. Matty, they had a mutual respect and counted on each other. They may had a small fight every episode, needless to say who was the victor each time, but they always understood each other. Matty knew him, and she could tell how important he was for the team. She respected him as a member of her team, as a friend and as an agent the world had the misfortune to lose. Russ, well, they didn't get the chance to know each other. I'm pretty sure Russ knew that Jack was greatly loved by his team, but he didn't know him on a personal level. Bozer, they were very close friends. They came closer to each other over the course of the show, but they didn't develop the close friendship he had with Mac. Bozer is the type of guy that's eveybody's friend and so was Jack, in most circumstances at least. They could depend on each other and talk about their lives, but that was mostly the extent of their freindhsip. Desi, I'll be honest here, was disapointingly composed during all of this. They all were, to varying degrees, but I figured that this was a perfect chance to showcase what's beyond her stoic facade and wall that she projects. Mac and the rest of the group had a deep place in Jack's heart. Choosing Desi to watch over them in his place should mean that they also shared a comparable bond with each other. That was why I hoped to see her, if not break down, at least show something. We know that she's not used to expressing her feelings due to her upbringing, I get that, but she and Jack are supposed to be more than just simple friends. She ows him a lot and he has enough trust and faith in her to protect his family. They can't just keep on dragging her character and not give her any developement. I just feel that this was a wasted opportunity, and I'm genuily sad about it. Mac and Riley, for them Jack was so much more than a friend, so much more than a family. They are the only ones who were genuily and deeply heartbroken beyond comparison at his death. To Riley, he was the father figure he needed in her life, the person she could count on during her difficult times and could bring a smile on her face when she was feeling down. He was the person who would never let her down and would always believe in her, no matter the circumstances. Losing him left a hole in her heart, a wound that may never heal, a scar that will always be a part of her. To Mac, he was his partner, he was his best friend, he was his brother. He was the person who always had his back, would stand alongside him, even when he was being stupid, and would always be there if he needed someone to talk to. I personally believe that losing him was the most damaging to him out of everyone else, even Riley. For Mac, family is everything. His father died to protect him. His aunt died to protect him, and it had to happen right after he found her and wanted to have a relationship with her. His mother died by the same goverment he serves. And now Jack, the closest thing he had to a family, died somewhere out of his reach. Not only that, but he is now left with the unimaginable guilt that he could most likely prevent it from happening, if only he had contacted him in time. P.S. Mac just can't get a break, can he? How much more must he suffer? How much more must he lose? And how much more can he endure all this? I know he has a strong character and willpower, I saw it when he didn't break under the unimaginable burden he carried during the previous arc. But please, I'm begging here, give the man a break, he deserves that much. P.S. 2 Please forgive me for suddenly turning it to Mac, I couldn't help myself, but I'm pretty sure Jack would feel the same.

I’m so heartbroken for Riley and Mac. Can you imagine if because they both had a special relationship to jack they spend a lot of time together to mourn him and he’s spending a lot more time with Riley and eventually that extra time spent together he realises he favours her company rather then Desi and realises he has feelings for Riley... it may be unlikely but i’m hoping because they both deserve to be happy and Jack would want the people he loved most to be happy and for them to be happy together would be amazing. jack isnt dead, im sure of it, they will work something out, like he had to go dark and he left the dog tags behind... you dont even see his old Delta unit at the funeral, neither you get to see jack inside the coffin. so the producers left some room for his return, trust me

I am in the UK, we don't have the new episodes yet, just had to watch for myself to see if Jack really is dead. OMG, this is not fair, I always wished he would return, pretend to be dead, but really come back in a later episode, this SUCKS! But lovely video though.

I dropped the series because of this. I only watched up until episode 14 in the third season when he left, but I already knew he was going to die at that point. He was the comedic relief and the show just wouldn't be the same without him. And Desi is nothing compared to him. Since he's dead now there's no point in watching the show. I love the other 4 (Mac, Riley, Bozer, and Matty) but the show will never be as funny or as interesting since he's gone now.
