Mache can accept more than 350amps which is why you can get more kw on the 350kw chargers. The 150kw ABB chargers are limited to 350amps, so Mache cannot get 150kw on these because the nominal voltage is sub 400v. Don't know if Ford has said how many amps it can accept but guessing its around 400amps.

Nice video and lots of good data! Is the charging curve identical regardless if you plug in at 0%, 10%, 20%, etc? Seems like that first 15-20 minutes is the sweet spot for the fastest charging before it drops down to the 70-80kW plateau.
@ev_kimchi
@ev_kimchi 2 жыл бұрын
The Mach-E is strange in that the high peak of 135-150-ish is time-based, not SOC based totally. You'll see about 30sec-3min of that peak even if you start with 30% or more. However, the rest of the curve seemed to follow the general soc-related levels you can see from my data. Generally 15-20minutes is a good rule for how long charging may take, depending on what SOC you pull in with, the temperature of the battery, and other things. If you're getting under 70KW and you are below 80% SOC, something is wrong with the charger or your car, but you're wasting your time pretty much.
@anthonyc8499
@anthonyc8499 2 жыл бұрын
@@ev_kimchi knowing that 20 minutes is the fastest charging window, what’s the ideal road trip charging itinerary to cover as much distance as possible if you start with a full charge (say from NorCal to Oregon)?
@anthonyc8499
@anthonyc8499 2 жыл бұрын
@@ev_kimchi getting 40% SoC back in 20 minutes means you can unplug and likely hit the next EA station 75-85 miles away. That might be the best move to cover the most distance as quickly as possible.

Wow so the much cheaper VW ID.4 charges significantly faster than the Mustang to any percent. That makes that decision much easier. But of course the mustang has a far bigger battery so that’s definitely why. Just wish it was a lot faster.
@ev_kimchi
@ev_kimchi 2 жыл бұрын
I also have an ID.4, and have road-tripped them both. In practical terms, there's little difference in how long we wind up stopping for a charge. We've never really found ourselves waiting for the car to stop, there's always leg stretching, kids eating or going to the bathroom, etc. Of course, we'd all like really faster charging, but you'll see that as more manufacturers move to 800V systems like you find in the Taycan, EV6, Ioniq 5 etc.
@_cjmccullough

@@ev_kimchi of course but those will be much more expensive than something like the ID.4 and it’s about to get an update 3.0 on the ID.4 for faster charging up to 135kw which is basically going to make it charge as fast as Tesla and many others in just about 32 minutes. From 0-80%. That’s fast enough for me

I would be curious to know how many kWh Electrify America said they output vs how much your MME PE said it received? And how many Mi/kWh your seeing driving your car? I have the same (similar) car on order & am wondering what I might expect.
@ev_kimchi
@ev_kimchi 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. My data is from the car's logs, utilizing an OBD-II dongle and phone app called Car Scanner. There's a very slight loss in current caused by the charger's electrical resistance, as well as the car's systems that actually energize the battery cells. There's also some loss to running lights, HVAC etc. Generally I've seen this to be less than 2-3kW, but I have not had the chance to do a precise comparison between displayed charge on the EA screen and what's logged in the car. If you do this, however, you can see it's close enough to be a negligible loss. Good luck with your delivery -- it's a great car!

check out an OBD-II reader and the Car Scanner app for iOS or Android. That lets you read and log a ton of data from the car, including these values that Ford does not display for you within the car. I will just say that unless you're making a KZbin video or are doing the latest cannonball record attempt, you generally are never doing what I did in this video of charging the car from ZERO percent, so a typical roadtrip will have 20-30 min stops. With my family, stopping every 2-3 hours would be happening anyhow so this is not a big deal to me. Of course, you can find other EVs that have faster charge curves if you frequently roadtrip, but everything has compromises. Or I guess you can enjoy fast fuel stops .... with $7 gas.

t's pointless to think a 150KW (Tke Extended range battery) rate can go higher on a 350KW charger. Go to a 150 KW charger. Save the 350 KW chargers for the EVs that can actually use 800V architecture. This charging curve is bad and only done so that Ford can state it can do 150 KWs, yet the average is far, far lower. Absolutely a joke, Ford. Now I know not to trade in my Ioniq 5 for any Mach E; c'mon Ford. Major adjustments need to be done on the curve. Edit: Li-Ion batteries can handle 2C charge rates. 2C = 2 x battery capacity. Nubies always think my car will charge faster on a 350 KW charger ; no, it'll just cost more than using the proper charger (150 KW).

@paulo3011 8 ай бұрын
Was it tied up? Based on the video evidence, it was pretty clear that he was really using it. Given most vehicles cannot charge above 250 kw/h, most cars cannot really use it. Even cars that can cannot stick to 350kw/h for the entirety of the charge cycle. By your poorly defined, arbitrary idea of "really using it", only Lucid and Genesis can charge there, which represents like < 1% of the market. Just a wild guess, but I'm pretty sure EA intended to allow more than just a handful of models to use their network. Maybe you didn't realize that more cars using their network = more money. If you want to address a real problem, I'd suggest you spend your time getting EA to keep their network maintained. Thier chargers being down for weeks at a time is a much biggger issue that ties spaces up more than this one KZbinr in this one video. Given how little they care about maintaining their chargers so they're not tied up being completely unusable, it stands to reason that maybe, just maybe, this vehicle isn't an issue.
