Only because his name is Machel Montano everyone finally realizes there is a genre named calypso? So other calypsoians who have been working tirelessly every year to bring pure calypso’s are not recognized? So we they not doing pure kaiso? The tents are nearly empty but we still continue to produce pure kaiso! The same energy over here for this pure kaiso should be sending over to the other pure kaisos!

These comments are baffling to me - are people so unaware of the rich variety of calypso and soca talent that has ALWAYS been out there that they really think this is innovative and groundbreaking in any way? Have any of them ever listened to David Rudder's "Calypso Music" for an actual example of a beautiful, melodic journey through musical history? This sounds like a primary school assignment - "Write an 'old time calypso' about the history of calypso and soca". If people really think this is genius then maybe this is exactly what we deserve as a people.

Its much deeper than the melody. The great storytelling in the lyrics and the little modern musical elements (like the "zess"drumm pattern) incorporated into the song makes it all very meaningfull. Calypso is not just a song, its an art. Plus we know Machel will always give a great performance. It have nothing to do with gatekeepers. He simply has all that it takes through years of hard work
