It's nice to see your grandson, Jordan getting his hands dirty along with you. I do wish either or both of my grandsons would show interest in my lathe/milling machine endevors. Always give him encouragment as you do and keep the videos coming, I do enjoy them. Thanks

"Jackpot" ! Like hearing our buddy Jordon on the videos. A shop helper of the first order ! That old lathe fell in to the right hands. Nice find there Mr. Pete ! use it in good health.

I’ve been going back through some of these older videos lately, as I have acquired a little Logan model 200.I’m planning to clean up and Learn how to use. It’s missing a few things, so I’m trying to channel your scrounging ability. I even spent some time in the Grizzly store with you last night from a few years ago. I have the big catalog but never new that the store would be so great. I’m in Ohio so a road trip may be in order. I’m sure glad to have your videos to refer to as I feed my own hobby and addiction to the older tools.

I sure hope Jordan keeps his interest in up in the machine shop, I have a feeling that it wouldn't take him long to acquire a fairly complete set of tools.

I have been looking keenly at your videos for sometime now and I have enjoyed them all. I am not a metal man but a wood man. However, the real reason I am commenting is to let you know that you remind me a lot on the respected Jimmy Stewart. Keep up the great job and God Bless.

I love the fact that your Grandson Jordon is by your side. From a few comments that he made, it's obvious that he's been hanging around Grandpa's shop for quite some time. I hope that he realizes what a lucky man he is for not only having the opportunity to spend quality time with you, but learning about tools and machines from a Master.

Mr Pete, I always wondered why you called yourself Tubalcain until I decided to look it up on the internets. I must say it was a very interesting choice to call yourself that. I like it. Kudos to you sir. I enjoy your videos keep up the good work. You could single-handily change the youth in this country to become mechanically inclined again.

Nice lathe. At one time I had a similar Logan 10" lathe and really liked it. Got rid of it when I found something with a quick change box on it instead of change gears - nice to see yours already has the quick change gear box! I believe that one of those levers is for the turret assembly that you could get for that lathe. There are some Logan catalogs over on the VintageMachinery, org web site that show that attachment as well as a lot more than what you have in your Wards catalog.

Good fun watching you go through all the boxes. It looks like a lot of good, useable tools and parts as well as a fine machine. Congratulations.

As always, great video Mr. Pete. The crosslide that you displayed is what I believe I have. Yours looks like the top portion of a lever operated crosslide that was offered by Logan.

Hi Tubalcain, what a great find. It may be possible to put the taper turning attachment into service by disconnecting the feedscrew off your current cross-slide and attach it to that (loosen the user-side feedscrew mounting bracket maybe?). I know the taper attachments on some English lathes can be used this way. It's a bit fiddly, but definitely makes the device useable.

I dumpster-dove a 1945-09-11 CHF about 25 years ago, which I had suspected was a Logan, and it is part for part the exact same castings as yours. This is great news as I have to find parts to recondition it. I wish the QC gearbox were still $88. You can barely get a gear for that price from Logan these days.

Glad you Identified it

The chuck jaws at 13:10 are soft jaws they are used by boring out to fit the part you wish to grip, this way they run true and no damage to the all ready machined part you are gripping, they are also ideal for gripping thin parts, you bore a step in the jaws to say hold a spring retaining washer or the like. Regards, Worksengineer

Awsome haul! Long time viewer, first time caller. I have a '42 model 200 10" which is pretty much the exact same lathe as yours there. Every logan accessory you pulled out was added to my wish list. I have recently been looking into adapting mine to accept a qcgb but finding one with the leadscrew is probably going to be the hard part. Looking forward to your future logan work. Be well.

Have you made a video on lathe collets and collet chucks for milling bits? I've been using 3-jaw chuck but you disapprove. I have inherited a 6" Atlas-Craftsman mid 50s lathe and am looking at ER20 chuck and collets. I don't know how to tell good from inferior brands.

If you are willing to pay for shipping and handling I'm sure some people would be compelled to ship them out instead of throwing them out. They could always leave them in a box outside and someone could pick them up... It is what it is, some of us are not lucky enough to hit the jackpot on auctions, in some places there aren't even auctions and if they are, the prices are not fair or the transportation is too costly...

That $319 is about $2700 when you figure for inflation. A decent no-name import in the same size range is $1000, and a name brand is about the same. Made in Tie-one-on, not America.

I won't criticize you for "tossing" worn or damaged tooling. (recycling?) But you may want to consider selling "gently used" tools (or even imported "junk") on ebay/craigslist. Some of us "cheapskates" would love to get hold of the stuff you don't think well of. (or give them away, if they'll pay the freight.) Just an idea. I've been an avid "student" of yours, since I 1st got on youtubeunivesity! :D Keep 'em coming.
