Sad to see Shanahan Bros selling up their gear. A great hardworking family who gave it 100 %.I remember their late father David reclaim all that gorse covered hilly ground around Barna into productive land. As good as there is anywhere. When Zetors were tops. Best of luck to Shanahan Bros in their future endeavors. One thing I know is them boys wont be idle for long.👍👍👍.

@@morganoflahertymachineryofirel West Waterford , always miss the silage cut, when I was a young lad it would take a few days, now hours, always mad for a spin on the tractor, never forget how they would back up onto the pit with the forks on the back of the tractor. And the memory of my mother making an incredible amount of food to feed everyone. Why are all these contractors shutting up business?

They must have taken approximately 350000 pounds on turnover from the silage seems a pittance for the machinery involved unless the farmers supply the diesel

Yea I agree contractors are finding it very hard to get paid now as the cost of everything is gone mad

@@morganoflahertymachineryofirel I could never see the profit in silage as the capital outlay is immense for the return you get and the amount of repairs etc then on a wet day nobody wants you and on a dry day everyone is screaming for you to get to them first then suddenly it's all over and you have to watch the machines sit idle all winter and depreciate like a stone falling off a cliff

Finding it harder and harder to get help and there expensives are gon true the roof

The sad reality is that the processed of that sale will be taxed at over 30% . If they want to pass it onto there kids they will then be taxed at over 30 % on the left overs . To buy the gear there is no grants or subsidy for contractors. Meanwhile farmers pay little to no inheritance tax and are heavly subsidised..there contractor has no chance ...i

Yes I agree %100 ,that's a lot of the reason they a folding all over the place contractors will be hard to get very shortly

It is madness slurry spreading equipment is grant aided to farmers but not contractors. It should be the other way around . Professionals contractors should be incentivised to run modern safe equipment for the environmental and road safety reasons. They are starting on the Backfoot when they have to compete with a farmers son using dads tractor and tanker which was bought with a grant ....by the way I am neither a farmer or contractor .

Same as my self so I know of a contractor/farmer that got into big trouble for yousing his grant aided tanker for hire work he had to pay back the grant
