I love Stihl as a brand but I needed a chainsaw during lockdown and couldn't buy a Stihl as the places that sell on the face to face policy were shut! I ended up getting a Husky 440 x-torq online which is a good chainsaw but it leaks oil like a sieve unless I drain after use. I've never looked at Echo for chainsaws but after your comments on build quality and comfort I might just give them a look. I appreciate the budget brand held it's own in this test but for how long I wonder? I think the Stihl performed really well in the log cut just a shame it doesn't have a priming bulb.

Do yourself a favor and buy the Echo CS590 Timberwolve. You'll thank me later, I promise. $399 with 5yr warranty and had magnesium casing, adjustable oiler, electronic ignition, decompression valve, has more torque than than Stihl and Husqvarna both due to longer stroke. Keeps same rpm all the way through the cut. Very reliable and seen them last 6 or 7 years with no issues. Add a muffler mod and remove the plastic limiters and tune it and it really opens up.. Unless going pro it's the only saw you'll ever need. Pops on 1st pull and starts on 2nd pull cold Everytime. People that pay double what the Timberwolve costs will even be impressed, really impressed. The Stihl group doesn't like anyone talking about them in the group but the truth is the truth. Look them up, the echo 620 is best Echo makes for about$150 more but still cheaper than comparable brands that cost double if not more. I like Stihl Husky both but Echo Timberwolve is my favorite saw for firewood use

You dont need the primer bulb mine can sit all winter every winter with cheap gas in it and it fires up every year. All other brands forget about it. I dont know why. But that is on the stihl 170 and 180 and farm boss I can't speak for other models of stihl. 170 12 years old and starts up aways. And I know were supposed to run them dry for storage.i just never needed to yet. Even with the cheap gas we use

Primer bulbs rot out. During work simply refuel as soon as the saw shows sign of running out. I love my 500i but already bought a spare primer bulb, never had one las indefinitely.

No saw will perform its highest rpm on the first run. I figure on five tanks, at least, for the max rpm to be attained. For normal break-in I figure on 12-15 tanks.

CC rating isn't what you should dwell on so much,its the kw of energy getting to the chain where a saw comes into its own.The vibration on the budget saw is something to stay away from!!! I've used saws with too much vibration and it causes numbness in my hands for months,even just using for a short amount of time.I'm not ever worried about fuel consumption.I want to get as much wood cut as quick as possible.If that means a faster saw uses more fuel,so be it.And how a saw is still running after 2000 hours of running is a big factor for me

I bought a budget saw like the green one from B&Q when I started up gardening. It was only for occasional use, and so long as it ran and cut I was happy. I hadn’t gone through the original chain in about a year of using, but the internal metal components started to break and crumble so I had to chuck it. I then decided to pay for a bit of quality and buy a Stihl MS170, as this was the only brand in my local dealership (a tool hire place that sold this sort of stuff too), it’s still going strong after ten years, even after the neglect an occasional use tool inevitably has to suffer. The guy in the store has been very helpful over the years ordering spares for my various tools as I have stayed brand loyal for the rest of my kit, the Stihl combi strimmer, hedge trimmer, blower etc. Which all fits into the boot of my Polo. I like to buy local when I can to help out the local economy.

TheHusky saws start easily when cold but can be hard to start when hot. They’re good homeowner grade saws but have some issues. The chain brake is a little wonky, the air filter is too small, and the bar oiler is prone to clogging. They cut pretty fast though.
@chainsaw_Expert_Chris
@chainsaw_Expert_Chris 28 күн бұрын
Analyze the performance of each chainsaw based on your cutting tests. Consider factors like the weight-to-power ratio and starting ease, as they significantly impact overall usability and efficiency. For those looking for budget options, the unknown brand performed surprisingly well given its price, suggesting that you don’t always need to spend a lot for decent performance.

I have a 4310, it comes with Oregon .325 .050 semi chisel chain. You can spec it with a 16” bar and chain which it pulls fine. When the original chain wears out I will replace it with Oregon 20LP full chisel. The nice thing with the Echo is that it comes with an Echo branded Sugihara bar.

I'd like to see the dependability test. Cheap saws start leaking fluid early and motors wear down and lose power with time. how hard are they to start after time. Sometimes you use all your energy for a job trying to start them and are too weak to use them until you rest. You lose time too.

The green is a winner, you can port the shit out of it. Ive seen guys buying 60cc saw from china for 100 euros and they played with it a little. Tomorrow that saw crushed the stihl ms400 haha. Ofcourse, its crap, but speedwise and if you need it twice a year or if you need it for your firewood, then the green is a best choice. I have makita, which is also a good but much cheaper saw than the big3.

@@MachineryNation I think majority of buyers will run it as is out of the box (I have ) and accept it as it is..they may be a percentage of people with the knowledge that it needs more carb tuning …I have bought 2 of the same brand saws within a 1 1/2 of each other ( one of the brands you tested) and it’s been at least 16 1/2 years since…only problem I’ve had was the first saw had to go back to dealer because of the ethanol gas…ever since I’ve only ran E-free changed air filters,fuel lines and filters and a oil pump several chains and a bar…never ever touched the carb on both of them…they are not pro saws and I use them on very heavy hardwood for a week and a half straight all day long every 3 months…I don’t know if that’s asking too much for a home saw but I’m really happy with them….I look at all the vids that pertains to my brand saw and it’s competition your vid is the only one I’ve seen that tuned the carb…my question is was it necessary and how far off was the factory adjustments?

Would someone please translate these spects. I hate metric and being force to use it. Do you know how much money it has cost mechanics and others because of this dumb rush to use metric? I worked for a company repairing CNC equipment. Then suddenly for no reason they started changing over to metric. My tool box and tools was worth over $2,300. Now I had to duplicate my tool box in metric. So that means I had to buy another $2,300 worth of tools! There was nothing wrong with having two systems. If you want to sell cars or machines in the US, then use our system.

@@MachineryNation The length of contact area of the chain against bar remains the same throughout this test because the material thickness cut remained constant. Bar length makes scant difference. I`ve run saws for over 50yrs. I was a hardcore Stihl guy, until i tried the Echo brand. As my Stihl`s died, they are being replaced by the Echo brand. Last Echo i just bought was the CS-7310P. You want a real good balanced SMOOTH AS SILK running chainsaw, buy the Echo saws. You will be impressed with how smooth and balanced they really are. And they start right up easily! No buzzing in your hands while cutting wood either! No more Stihl`s for me. As a matter of fact, i`m still using my Echo GT-1000 weed eater that i bought over 35yrs ago. Never been torn down, fixed or repaired of any kind, and i`m still using it. THAT is what you call quality that will last you a very long time! There chainsaws are super quality. I have ZERO regrets switching brands!

I just give each chain tooth 4 swipes with a proper file before I put it away. I change the pipework every other year and it's still running on it's original plug..! I paid £79 for mine back in the day and it has always started reliably. I would just buy another if it wasn't repairable one day, the price of the other saws on test were outrageous, one 7 times as much. I have a Proyama chainsaw, and I will say that this Proyama chainsaw is better than my Stihl and Husqvarna ones. It has plenty of power and it's easy to maintain. There's no kickback at all and even with the included chain it cut pretty quick and very clean. using the included chains I cut some pretty large logs. It's certainly not light and could probably be a little better balance but I don't do this for a living so I'm fine with it. The two bars are a very well built and very sturdy. Idle is perfect out of the box. Chain brake works and is essential. The included safety equipment actually does a good job. The ear muffs and face mask are not the best quality material but they both will certainly protect your hearing and most definitely your face from flying chips. The face mask screen unexpectedly heavy duty. The gloves at best will keep any sweat off your hands and prevent it from slipping. The gas can is very handy! I can't speak for professional use but I will say I highly recommend this Proyama saw for home use and I would most certainly get one again if I needed. The value of this chainsaw is amazing and takes less than 1/2 of the name brands and does just as good or better job.

I have a Stihl 039 that is more than 25 years old. I’m going to be using it today and it is Stihl running great. Maybe someone should do a longevity test, if that’s possible? How many of the other saws would still be running 25 years later?

Priming doesn't happen anymore due to emission restrictions, etc. There are some older lawn mower engines that still have it, but most of those parts are no longer available when something fails. No company that is run in the western world by American, Japanese, German, or other European regulations is using an actual primer (where gas leaks all over the ground after juicing the carburetor). They are using an air purge bulb -- the only thing it does (which is important) is it removes all the air out of the fuel lines. It just makes sure the gas lines aren't feeding any air into the carb when trying to start it. That's one of the reasons we pull an extra time or two these days... we're actually priming the carb in our initial pulls, lol.

I believe there's a bit of bias here , being a cheap saw the attention to detail on tune and chain sharpness was not as keen ! You better get used to the more affordable petrol tools , the manufacturing of Stihl and Husqvarna gas saws are going away in lieu of battery !

Considering the budget saw is only £80 odd pounds, it puts the others to shame, it wasn't that far behind. These saws get better once bedded in.

Why is Echo so expensive. Here in the states Echo is cheaper than Husky and Stihl. Not surprised to see the larger cc saws use fuel a little faster. I own a few Huskies and a Stihl. My Husky 440 does not like to idle, my trusty 55 Rancher runs great. My Stihl 461 is a beast, at 76 cc’s it runs circles around the Husky’s. But I use the smaller saws to limb trees and cut wood up to 12-14”. The larger wood the MS 461 comes out and it eats wool like an angry beaver.

those non branded saws can be picked up online for £60 all day long, pay a little more and you can get them included with a Oregon chain and bar, i haven't actually heard any real horror stories about them from people who actually know how to look after them. i think a lot of the horror stories are from inexperienced people who buy them for a one off job put them away for the winter with pump fuel in them and expect them to work 8 months later.

Fools aye? 😂 I’ve been to their factory in Waiblingen, Germany and they make a lot more models than that there. Also we never said the saw was made in Germany, we said representing Germany, Stihl is a German brand. Their components are produced across a global platform of factories eg. cylinders and pistons from Brazil, carburettor’s from China and chains/bars from Switzerland and then a majority of their products are assembled in their German plant or their Virginia Beach plant in the US. I hope this helps 👍🏼
