Bought this for my small back deck in the Eastern Sierra. kzbin.infoUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN We get A LOT of HEAVY snow so I was a bit skeptical but it was worth it! After the first storm of the year this has exceeded expectations! It throws snow very well, even 10-12” + that said the more it piles up the harder it is to maneuver the machine. It is exceptionally light weight and overall exactly what I was looking for. If you have a large amount of snow and a lot of area to clear, you may consider something with a drive engine to help maneuverability, but for decks, second stories, roofs etc, you can’t beat the light weight to great snow throwing ratio. Side note, the chute rotator is a bit flimsy and it initially didn’t seem to work, after a few uses it seems to have loosened up.

My grandparents lived in a snowy area in Japan. Some houses there have an entry door on the second floor, which looks weird in summer, but in winter it makes sense as snow blocks entry way on the first floor. Snow fallen on the side can pile up as high as the roof and when I was a kid, I liked to sled from the rooftop.

Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. Could you explain why they put so much effort to remove snow from the roof? it seems a lot of work, and it creates huge hills of snow near the house, against the windows, it must be a huge work to remove it a second time...
Here in Canada, we never clean the snow from the roof top, because in the house we are using center heater, so the heat comes through all over room include the attic, so no mountain of snow sitting on the roof top. So sad to see the view of huge snow on the roof like in this video, it's hard to clean it.

your house collapsing from it doesn't really happen outside poor areas. usually houses have roofs sloped enough so that if too much snow piles up it falls off.
@OrigamiMarie4 жыл бұрын
Lots of places get snow, but don't get enough to require shoveling the roof. And in some places, they make the roofs slopes enough (think alpine cottage) that it slides off if there's a lot of it. You do have to be a little more safety-conscious in cold weather places though. Wear layers, not just one big thick layer, because if you overheat and you take off that one big layer, you'll freezer in your own sweat. Wear synthetic or wool layers in addition to your cotton, because they'll keep your warm while wet, unlike cotton. When you drive places, make sure your car is fueled up for the trip, check the forecast for snow, and bring kitty litter (for traction under your tires if your get stuck), a shovel, road flares, a warm blanket, warm clothing (even if you're planning to just go from one warm place to another), and snacks. Make sure your phone is charged and you've downloaded the maps, and don't take shortcuts. Learn how to use mittens. If you wear gloves, learn how to pull your fingers inside them so they warm up, then put them out into the glove fingers again when warm or your need to use your hands. Wear a good hat (that covers your ears) and good boots. Help your neighbors and stranded people when you can, because tomorrow you'll need help.
@matteste3 жыл бұрын
Where I live we never bother to remove the snow from our roofs, they are built to take the load. In fact, they have struts built on top of them to prevent the snow from going off. The snow also provides some extra insulation for the cold winter months.
@marciturner498010 ай бұрын
@@OrigamiMarieTake a shovel with you. I keep mine in my car trunk all year around to not forget it. I also keep 2 pillows and 2 queen size blankets to sleep in car if stranded overnight. I have a smaller blanket up front on passenger floor to use up front if I am only going to be stranded that day before help arrives the same day, and a different pillow up front to use for relaxing up front for same day help. Also have a hooded Sherpa wool blanket with sleeves that goes slightly past my feet up front in case battery goes dead and I am freezing while waiting for same day rescue or and over night rescue. @jimmyfortrue37414 жыл бұрын
@@derekakaderek yeah I suppose in a perfect world every building would have perfect pitch and roofing material. In the meantime it's a good tool for those who don't. By the way, you don't need a super steep pitch for the rake to work. I've got a 5/12 pitch and used one of these ( my neighbor lent it to me ) after a blizzard a few years back. Beats shoveling by far.
I live in New England (no stranger to Nor'Easter's and blizzards), and I will NEVER complain about snow shoveling again! I am amazed some of those roofs didn't collapse under the weight of that snow!

Our house has a hidden faster metal roof that the snow slides before large amounts accumulate. It only has a 3/12 pitch and we get a a lot of snow and never had a problem. We also have a remote cabin with most of the roof an 18/12 pitch that never holds more than a few inches of snow. That places gets many feet every winter. I have cleared a foot or two off the roof in Manitoba Canada but nothing like most of these. Whoever is clearing snow off the roof have to be very careful that they do not fall off the roof or be in the line of fire as the snow comes down as there is quite a bit of weight there. These are a great example of problem solving for a common problem to save the roof from caving in from too much weight.

It gets dangerous when rain falls on a big layer of snow.

@@janasheenhaider3941 The snow holds the water. I can become so heavy that it breaks the roof.

@2:17. Those are some cool party hats. My dad used to wear a lamp shade on his head every New Year's Eve. Stayed in the house though.

South African here, why dont you just have heated rooftops? Like you have underfloor central heating, just move it up a level and warm the attics??
@scorpioteez2334 жыл бұрын
Not everyone could afford that bro
@andyzhang36834 жыл бұрын
The attics aren't insulated, so the energy cost will be insane.

Maybe first let’s get off the oil and gas most of these houses are burning for heat. Then consider heating the snow of the roof.

The prefectures on the Sea of Japan side are in a terrible situation with a tremendous snowstorm that makes it impossible to see ahead and over 2 meters of snowfall . Some people die when the snow on the roof falls and becomes the underlay . If people do not remove the snow on the roof , the weight of the snow win cause the house collapse . Removing snow from the roof is hard work and dangerous . Tokyo has less than 10 cm overwhelming snow in February or March . It's a fuss or hustle and bustle with the snowfall at that time , Vehicles that are not equipped with studless tires or chains will get struck in the snow , Unlike northern prefectures , Tokyo is vulnerable to snow . Invincible Blizzard is calling me ‼️ From chaotic Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun ♨️

For people who really want to try touch the snow so bad there is a simple solution to have a similar simulation : try lucid dreaming about it . I once had a dream about having a snow fight with my frineds and it was more then satisfing because it felt so real although i've never seen it in my life .the sensation of the snow touching my palm didn't even leave when the dream ended . So try to put yourself into that mindsest before sleeping and think about it deeply while relaxing every inch of your body.
