I feel like that's the most likely, but I wanna consider alternatives too. With a size range from Field Ordnance to Forgefiend, Broadsides would sit very snugly in the middle, but I think there's space for a Hammerhead too. Or, in keeping with the "rocket artillery" theming, perhaps a Skyray? A Broadside might fit too, but I think that's perhaps a bit too big, and a bit too "frontline", they say they're going for more fire *support* units. I'd consider a Firesight Marksman as an unusual "Long Range Support" fit for the slot.... but we already have Sho!

I really don't like having to buy ammunition for a character at all. I wish the dev's would focus on rolling out the campaign's for all the factions that have the full rosters out like Death Guard, Tau, Space Wolves and Sisters of Battle. I hope they change their mind on the cost of ammunition or make these not needed to use.

They say that munitions are going to be limited, have a on screen thing saying upto 200 concerns me that whales will be able to just use them so much more.

That's what I'm worried about. The MoW will be usable only in those modes where we have leaderboards aka where we measure ourselves and our guilds... Tell me HOW is not going to be pay 2 win if the f2p player (called "the most competitive" by the Devs...) has to "pick and choose the perfect moment to utilize both the primary and secondary abilities" while the richest can just blast both every turn in every mode like there's no tomorrow? Imagine that. Imagine two players (or guilds) trying to get the first Arena position, or the first spot on the Raid leaderboard, or even winning a Guild War season, fighting each other. One, "the most competitive", utilizes what he has trying to do their best without paying, the other spends rent money on munitions and just takes everything over. Multiply that for a guild of 30 members. They even said it: "if someone wants to utilize both skills in each and every turn of every mode they will have to buy something"... What? Right now the balance is time-spent dictated (which is a demi-balance: you will never ever reach and beat players that started a year before you did unless they quit OR you buy everything with real money to gorge your roster and do in a month what a f2p does in 8) but with the introduction of this mechanic it won't be the smartest player, it won't be the oldest, it will just be the richest. Please, don't screw up Tacticus. Please. You already have sources of income...

Plus, the idea came up fast when they had to "encourage players to use what they have" (therefore no free stockpiling, it keeps the buying/spending munitions cycle alive and well) - but they didn't think of a maximum usage of said machines... I'm scared, and I'm a spender. What's unjust is unjust.

I think it's fine for normal arena and guild raids... but for TA and Guild Wars, I think it will matter more. If you have a limited item that is no longer limited with purchase through money, that is pay to win. It then becomes people with unlimited resources against people with limited resources.

Wilhelm said talked about how they don't want spending to allow players to "constantly win where you otherwise wouldn't". I'm worried that those who purchase bundles for primary abilities will feel a benefit of winning more against evenly matched players who simply can't use the MoW primary ability. Snowprint has gained my trust that they are very responsive to input, so I do have hope that they will appropriately monitor this, but I still wanted to comment to keep it on their radar.

You are absolutely right. It goes beyond “winning” - it affects growth of characters. The comment about the game not being pay-gated is outright false. It’s ridiculously easy to demonstrate this.

I also want to say to snowprint, since you mentioned they read these comments: thanks so much for being so responsive to player feedback. I've never played a mobile game where the davs were this active with the community, and this good about changing the game when needed. Keep it up!

A more general question would be, is there a chance that equipment gets an overhaul as it starts to really fall off in the highest ranks vs the raw character power. A second one would be, many newer factions have a faction wide mechanic or trait but some like Ultra Marines and Dark Angels don´t. Any chance that those get a pass of looked at and something added for those as well?

"generous" is a reach since they're literally adding a P2W mechanic that's at all not needed They could just make the stronger attacks have bigger cooldowns instead of using a resource that you can buy with real money But they sure are communicative about it...

Wait, something important is unclear. At the beginning you need to pick one of three machines and then pursue the unlock and improvement of said machine. Then in the future when more machines will be released each of them will have it's own event... So, speaking of the first ones, we'll be able to unlock only the one we picked out of three? EDIT: One more question about the way to get munitions for the primary ability: they said you get some munitions in f2p and the "most competitive players" will use both the primary and secondary ability only when really needed BUT if you want to spam both abilities every turn, every battle, fundamentally it's up to you and you will need to buy the munitions for that... hmm, isn't that exactly what pay 2 win means? Imagine two players with the same machine and same team, same experience, trying to get the first position in the arena or even winning the guild war season. One uses what he's given for free, meticulously picking the best situations, the other blasts munitions like there's no tomorrow spending rent money - isn't that unbalanced? Please, Dev team 🙏🏻 Think of a way to not screw up the game mechanics making the richest the kings of all leaderboards... Please. Nandi, amazing job as always. It's really wholesome to see you get closer and closer to the dev team as almost an "insider" journalist to give us all the detailed information we need to prepare for upcoming stuff like this and much much more!

They said that each machine will be unlocked in an incursion event every five weeks. The new machines will be available after the first three incursions.

From what they said about people having different machines at the start, yeah, I do think they meant that you'll only be able to choose one machine per event, including the first one.

​​@@doomgoon8933From what I can tell, you can only progress towards one in a single incursion event. So let's say I go rocket artillery in the first one. In the second one I go biovore, my rocket artillery is still in my roster. In the third I go forgefiend, I still have rocket artillery and biovore in my roster. And an incursion will be once a month with their plan to release new MoW every two months, so long as you participate you can get everything and level them up in order of your choosing.

I love having one always usable ability and one cost. I had thought to use them at all would be using a resource and I would barely remember they exist at all as a f2p player.

I enjoy Tacticus alot, I have issues with it that stem from the nature of it being a mobile game. I hope years down the line there is a premium version that has been reworked to just be a game without all the waiting for the game to allow you to play a match.

Great video Nandi! I really hope they revert the munitions feature - We don't need a new currency. I can only imagine that this will result in a negative experience when you cannot use half of a cool new feature, simply because you either dont have or dont want to waste a scarce currency. This smells like when the EA director wanted paid reloads in battlefield...

I agree with many of the comments here that there must be some restrictions / balancing to ensure that the Machines do not predominate in TA and Guild War, where skill and coordination should be primary for success.

Hello. Im glad Nandi keeps doing interesting videos. Please, let me say that sometimes LESS IS MORE. It is nice to have the machines of war on theone hand, but really new stuff comes too quickly tbh, I mean how can we soquickly develop so many things _? In 2024 we got new heroes, like Wrask, new modes like the Guild war, tons of events like the quests for a certain hero, TA , etc. It is better to have all that but not at once, just to wait a bit more between introducing new things

In it itself, great video as usual. That said, all the euphemisms can't hide this is yet another move in an increasingly clear trend towards p2w. Sad and worried about the direction a brilliant game I truly love is going... Oh and I do spend on Tacticus.

I think there needs to be some thought into how a limited resource munitions feeds into the difficulty of arena. Im sure everyone has seen talk about the difficulty spike due to what i think was a combining of leagues. A 6th unit will by default increase difficulty as the difference between higher a lower level players would be greater but also depending on how the defender are able to use munitions would be a second difficulty spike. I guess the easiest answer would just be not at all? The suppress effect with a garunteed hit is also insane for arena in a way that i dont mind as it will shake up the meta. Just having read the units released today i would say the astra militarum one seems a little too much better than the others depending on how well they scale.

My main concern is for this to not further strain the economy. The game is absolutely pay-gated after roughly mid-30 level and gold II gear. Made worse by the incredibly stingy resource economy and the random character shard drops, which mean, now that there is a large number of characters, that the chances of progressing who you want to are infinitesimally small. The game has reached the point where it needs to choose whether it will just churn new players or give more options beyond the hard pay wall. Even paying for the monthly pass no longer makes growth viable.

That’s the thing though… I am not against monetisation but they have lost the plot. I buy the monthly pass and it is *still* pointless. The game design is tilted towards people who are willing to spend *minimum*~$100 per month on a mobile game. I don’t know, maybe they have such an audience at sufficient numbers. But people should come into this with open eyes now.

Only thing I felt sad about is that we can’t use campaign because it could really help a lot in a some of campaign. Really hope they allow us to use it sooner or later cause I struggle a lot getting 3 stars, specially Fall of Cadia. They hit like a struck and radio imperial guard is not making life easier.

Real cool interview opportunity Nandi! As for the actual units, I'm cautiously optimistic. Seems cool, but now EVERYONE will have a one of these nearly EVERY battle. The entire game is going to change from here on out. I don't think we're really prepared to see what the ramifications of the commjnity picking one as the "meta machine" and seeing it every pvp battle. On top of that - it kind of feels like some of these attacks are similar to Thad abilities. Thad is already the least fun hero in the game IMO. No counter play to a turn one artillery sniping a backline unit. It may be a risk that the person using it - but the big thing is they are choosing that risk. When you are on the other end, there's no positioning or blocking or anytbing you could do. Its just "welp, good luck with this 4v5 battle". Thad already is in a lot of arena teams as is. With these cannons on top of it, I feel like the game has the chance to become a lot more frustrating as the feeling of agency is taken away from the defender and they just have to figure out how to deal with being at a random disadvantage sometimes.

I like the Machines of War concept a lot, but I definitely strongly dislike the munitions aspect. A limited amount of shots in battle is fine, but having to scrounge ammunition from outside is just an extra layer of hassle that will be obligatory if you want to take full advantage of it, and you WILL want to, as your opponents will also be.

MoW in Guild War with not so clear and equal ways to get ammo? That's a silly move imho. Moreover, after the release Incursion feels more useful as an Onslaught-type daily event rather than a once-every-five-weeks one. I want to be able to progress my machines with my own pace, not just picking if I want to get a new one or push one already in my roster... that is not enjoyable at all. We need a daily event after the first three months imho.

I hope that Tanksmasha gets his counter attack back, make it retaliate AFTER being hit instead of BEFORE like the other counters we have, make it do PHYSICAL damage so armor reduces it's value significantly enough and just make it infinite like Jaeger's That way Tankmasha will have something to take advantage of his newfound tankiness since his direct damage output is still nowhere near good enough A tanky crowd control retaliator

I really wish SP would focus on the Reworks before they release anymore new content. For me, the excitement for new content is numbed. It’s more like great (sarcasm), another things that might/will prevent the Devs from starting/completing “quality of gameplay improvements”. Sorry for the negativity. I just think the Reworks will draw more ppl to the game than the new content. When I tell ppl about Tacticus, I mention the good and the bad and wish there were less bad. For example the Requisitions, I’m inclined to spend $ on something Requisition related as a thank you to SP. I bought the Elite BP (bc the Rework should be patch 1.19) already but if they had a really good deal for Scrolls after the Rework then probably that too. Or I’ll actually buy the Monthly BS if not.

Munitions to use abilties is going to be absolutely terrible for the health of the game, quite aside from all the balence issues. This will probably drive quite a few people away from the game; it is already incredibly hard to keep up for newer players, the barrier to entry is HUGE even if you spend quite a bit of money. Even the uninteractive nature of the machines seems unfun, cannot be damaged and cannot move or interact directly, just seems like spending tonnes of tight resouces on a passive buff with a visual. I really hope they are not implemented in this state.

If the developers read this - my guild is not able to meet the minimum 10 x level 20 players to play Guild Wars! I have been kicking inactive members and have a full roster but we have not been able to play yet. I could leave the guild I started to join a higher level guild but that is not much fun for me and doesn't help the lower level players in my guild. Please lower the level requirements for Guild Wars :)

I can appreciate the honesty of: "We want these to be limited resources because... We want you to pay money so we get a paycheck". This is the gameplay design that will ruin the game. Even if MoW is not the new meta, this kind of mindset will ruin the game longterm if continued. The funny thing is they could have just said something about "limiting resources makes the gameplay more balanced" but instead they admit its to generate more profit lol.

It's not limiting resources if the only resources being limited are the free ones... I really, actually, sincerely hoped this wasn't the untold cash grab milk cow game by GW and minions where they try to keep a resemblance of balance before making it blatant, having people tired of it quit it, close the project, "we bought our houses, let's move to the next milk cow". We even went past the old but unavoidable "it's not p2p, nor p2w, you just have to play for years to unlock a character if you don't buy anything but you can still unlock it! Getting top 10 when you started a week late?! Impossible, unless you spend the equivalent of a sports car" stuff... This is the beginning of the end of they don't hit the brakes and make a U turn.

It's not a problem if you want to use the premium ability each turn, it's an issue that they are not making money each time you use it. World of Tanks/Warships do this same thing and its gross. it turns people away and is not a fun mechanic to play around. I agree that without course correction that we will see the game die off. Every argument I see from critiques on the P2W is justified pending this update goes through. My guess is the players will reject this change at first, developers react by making ammo easier to get, then people stop talking about it as much. Classic appeasement while whales waste money away for the first few months.

I agree. I consistently buy the monthly pass, am OCD about collecting and, at power 46, I have hit the point where things are no longer moving meaningfully for me. So if even “obsessive” customers, willing to pay for the monthly pass, like me, are not the target audience, good luck to them.

Munitions feature is really off putting for me. Its basically pay to use... Hopefully they remove that and make it accessible to people who dont want to drop a ton of cash on a mobile game.

1) The fact primary MoW abilities will require consumable munitions is concerning. I do not want to see victory in GW, Arena, etc be based on who is willing to spend the most money so they can use munitions for every attack. There will need to be a daily stream of munitions received by players on a FTP basis, and additional munitions received as FTP rewards based on performance in various game modes. Monetize this by making a monthly, very cheap plan for daily munitions no more expensive than the monthly BS packages and preferably even cheaper. I do not want to see US$100 packages for a bundle of 10 munitions!!! 2) Nothing was mentioned about MoW and intra-faction synergies. Are there any? And in general, why are faction synergies in Tacticus so weak as compared to other similar games such as Marvel Strike Force?

Amazing, I already spend a decent amount, not massively like a whale, but I use expendable income on this game to progress (BS deals, Ultimate BP, Event packs etc). Adding P2W features like having to by ammo is a big miss from me. I'll give it a season or 2 to see how it goes, but for me I feel like doing this is going to drive not just F2P players away because they can't compete, but also it's going to drive away lower level but consistent spenders, leaving whales who can just spam abilities. I'm sorry but that's a big no no. It's a short term gain at the detriment of the community at large in the long term. I'd love to see their active player stats in 6 months to see the effects this has had on the community. The game is already expensive enough, there has been points where I've had offers to buy characters that cost more than it does to buy the physical model, something that is mine that I can use forever, even resell to recoup money later.....That is just bad.

I was excited about this feature, now I couldn't care less. P2W feature, for the whales. Lovely - they had the opportunity to make it a bit more fun for f2p players, in a game that has so much focus on pay 2 win, and they just showed they didn't care. I suppose every gamer played a game with limited potions or smt, and never used them, because "I might need it later" - it will be similar for this one

Not true. They want our feedback so they can get the most money AND keep the free to play gamers interested and not feel bitter because someone with $20 can completely win against them. Do you want them to work for free? GW is definitely taking a HUGE chunk of their income for licensing and this all costs them huge and is a big gamble as well. Nobody likes to keep paying money for a “free” game. But this isn’t a black and white issue.

​@@ao1778The said product (MoW) was totally uncalled for, nobody asked for them and nobody asked for them to be pay 2 win. So what is happening is, a product made with the purpose to destabilise the product that you already have is added to the game and you must buy it if you want to keep being competitive in said game or else all the money and time spent on the game will be wasted - that's the underlying, hidden threat. You would be right if we paid to play tacticus. They made a product, they need to be paid for it. in this case the product is already there under the false pretenses of being free, once you start playing every second and dollar spent adds to the effort you put into it, making the threat bigger, therefore uncalled for patches which are basically 'pay to win, not to have fun, pay to disrupt the fun of everyone until they pay too' are made to be mandatory if you don't want to quit and think of the years and money already given as thrown in the garbage

The monetisation in this game is already absurd. 22.99 for a battle pass is absolutely insane. The amount of content in other games you can get with that money is way more. Also the money you spend to buy things on Tacticus has such a small impact it really incentivises whales and not people who dip £5 here or there
