I inherited a 350 CUT and a 600 CUT from the previous operator at my company and I can say I was amazed I didn't think of using the 3 R chuck gives me work holding ideas rather than just clamping off the side or in a vice.

Glad you can take something away from the video! That is the goal for us! You can also use rotary indexers to do the same thing but in that case it will index automatically!

Ran an EDM setup similar to this where we made inserts for cast locks. Tolerance was about 10 microns, and we could hold it with ease. I love the process, it's beautiful.

I'm a first year apprentice here in Australia and I started on the edm wire cutters(fanuc). I got pretty good at these machines and making cam profiles. I could think of many uses for these machines. I mostly do internal splines and maag cutters in tool steel and tungsten carbide. Pretty interesting

I love WEDM I programmed and ran a sodick wire and spark machines for one years untill our APT crashed and since we couldn't find a replacement I had to hand code for another one year, it was awesome now two years almost away from them. slug actually was amazing a times than the product. they are antiques though they got to be disposed. I believe a come back soon to those using cam systems.

Looks like they were reading the comments from the last WEDM video on not using a cutter to cut the wire LOL When I do mild inserts like that we use Hirschmann rotary’s. Really gains the unattended machine time versus having to manually index. Good video!

There's not enough EDM video's out there so more please, one thing I can't stress enough to customers that want me to wire cut some things is the machine's work in mm per minute and not meters per minute so thats why EDM ain't cheap, it would be great to see how you dial in and datum a job when you use the chuck,👍👍

Be carefull with those 3R mount you put on machine. We've got them for machining electrodes and found the outsides are not guaranteed square to the macro reference surfaces. Plus the 2 halfs are only bolted together, no dowels. So they could move if they ever get knocked or dropped. Basically dont trust the body to be square, always clock those references!

I've always wondered with EDM, what does the tank fill up with before it starts cutting and how does it help the process?
@trevorgoforth8963
@trevorgoforth8963 Жыл бұрын
The tank fills up with deionized water. It is deionized to lower the conductivity. There is also an upper and lower jet that shoots a stream of DI water through the burn gap and its purpose is to flush the swarf from the gap so you don't have wire breakages.

Slugs are often some of the prettiest things I know one place where they EDM copper and instead of just wasting the slugs, they become heatsinks Like 25 extra seconds in the machine plus some threaded holes and you got a $150 part instead of $15 of scrap

I'm assuming that the 20 thou left on the part to allow you to break it off would need to be removed in some applications for proper fit in the mold once it's assembled. How would you ideal go about doing this?

How exactly does a WEDM work?... is it using pure heat (even though its under water) to essentially 'melt away' thin layers of the metal? or is the Wire moving so fast that its acting like a toothless blade and 'slicing' through the metal?
@markcasper6940
@markcasper6940 Жыл бұрын
It is using AC current to vaporise a region of material around the wire. The wire is not eaten away much and as it passes the cut zone new wire is constantly introduced to create a stable ark. Think of it like a plasma cutter that uses water instead of air. AI setting maintain the ideal cut parameters as per cam drawing calculations.

Fk that. . . . . Get an edm with an AWF (automatic wire feed). . . . Wire breaks all the time if you're running aggressive AI settings and if that machine isn't cutting that wire, threading it itself, and retracing the cutting path I'd straight up throw that whole machine in the trash bro. Get a fanuc robocut. . . . .
