I was fortunate to come across an older machinist at a shop I worked at who had his own shop earlier in life and he sold me some amazing oldschool Starret mics and othet tools aswell as these super expensive german drill chucks, all for pennies on the dollar and those are all by far my most cherished tools and favorite to use.

Mitutoyo is that one legendary brand where you know you are going to get some of the *the best* and most precise and accurate tools humans are capable of creating. I feel like there's a level of prestige in owning tools from Mitutoyo, even though they can be found in-use everywhere. I know a few of my local auto mechanic shops have at least one set of Mitutoyo calipers on hand because I've seen them while bringing my car in for service. I'd bet they likely have a slew of other Mitutoyo tools in a toolbox I didn't see. Whether you realize it or not, everything we interact with daily was designed, developed, and engineered using at least one of Mitutoyo tools. Thank you Mitutoyo for doing what you do.

My first ever machinist tool was a brand new set of 6 inch digital mitutoyo calipers. My dad's friend gave them to me when I was 14 years old, so 23 years ago. I still have them, and my dad's friend has since passed. A few years ago I sent those calipers out to get reground. The company was very polite, and said it wasn't worth it because the repair would cost more than a new set. I told them I really appreciated their honesty, but these are very sentimental to me and I'd still like them fixed. They fixed them up nice, and I still use them to this day. Can't beat that Mitutoyo quality, and your most trusted tools will become sentimental to you.

And, here i am, thinking about finally retiring my 150mm IP67 Mitutoyo caliper, after 5,5 years of daily use in a job shop... It has it quirks, few dings, but i still use it every day, even though i know that in some ways it measures 0,02-0,04mm off and is getting a little worn and a bit looser in the 0-50mm range... I can get a new one any time i want, but it gained some sentimental value for me, it was the first caliper i got, i learned everything i know as a CNC machinist today with this caliper in my hand: setups, tooling, programming, 3axis, 5axis, lathes... Its hard to move on and get a shiny new one...

Thank you for the video. I have a Mitutoyo Japan dial bore gauge from the 1970s. That era of tooling is difficult to find! My 0-6" set is newer and I use it often. I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for the video!
