Its always good to see how other people go about manufacturing a part it helps you to become a better machinist.

It's irresistible. Lathes, milling machines, any kind of really powerful thing that just slices away metal like it's nothing... You just want to see more. I know I do.

this is such a nice video for such a nice and simple part. as a cnc and manual machinist its awesome to see all the work that goes into 1 part. so many people dont understand what it really takes to make something

I started out in life on a mission to become a machinist and I completed an apprentice program many, many years ago but life took me in other directions. This brought back some really good memories and reminded me what my true calling is. I'm definitely jumping back in, thank you for the inspiration.

I love these videos, I know nothing about machining parts like this, I am a nurse, but love watching them. This one stood out more than all the others I have watched in that you cleaned and tidied the place as you went along. Nice video.

I was a programmer/setter for a CNC Churchill turret lathe at Rushton Gas Turbines in Lincoln and Rushton Bucyrus over the other side of the city. I only have a medium-sized Ward 7 though in my workshop at home.

That is excellent work, something to be proud of. What is yet another plus is, you did it by means of conventional machinery. I thought it was becoming a lost art.

Saved money via what... replacing his own home doorknobs? lol. This is a hobby. If this (obviously expert) person could be working they'd be making exponentially more money than they might save by manually machining home repair parts.

Using edge finder on one side in X, zero, move to other side touch off, move table half distance X currently reads after touching second side then zero. Repeat for Y. Doesn't quite matter if you don't touch off exactly in the mid. Personally on a round part i'd sweep it with dial indicator to find center.

With the Sieg C4, would it be possible to taper a rod VERY slightly, say .003" over an inch, or so? I know it has power cross feed, so I'm guessing it might be possible, but I'm not sure.

This is officially one of my favorite machining videos. You, sir, have excellent taste. I don't care if some people think it's a waste of material or that 'this and that' could have been done in less operations. There are always people that have to chime in with bullshit. Well done :)

From what I saw, you eye up the edge finder in the middle of the workpiece, roughly, then find the edge of the x axis on one side, then find the other side, half the result and wind to zero. Repeat for Y axis and you should have the middle? Someone correct me if i'm wrong
