I have used bees wax for drilling and tapping it works great. For the lard it looks a lot like the dead center lube I used as a kid.

I’ll do a video with beeswax that will be fun!

I have made some using beeswax and dark sulfur cutting oil. It works great tapping and single point threading on the lathe. Also, just a general cutting paste.

I've often used lard as a cutting oil, it works great on aluminum, as does kerosene. You only need to apply just a waffer thin layer and that will help keep it

I was really surprised how well this went. It really works great using HSS tooling. It’s fun to try old shop methods and experiment with how people got things done before we believed we had to source everything from MSC Direct or McMaster Carr

4:30 I have been trying to find some cutting fluid that tastes better than Sulfkut. A quick sandwich at the lathe won't be such a stomach ache anymore!!! That is really too cool! Amazing. Maybe using a big stick, like an orange pushup pop??

What about beeswax, instead of parrafin?
@MaineMachinist2 жыл бұрын
I was going to try that, but my wife was out of beeswax pellets that she uses for her salve business

I need non-toxic coolant, or 'cutting fluid', not oil. The synthetic stuff has cat-killing junk in it from automotive coolants and when it ends up on the floor and my cats step in it, they lick it off their paws and die a miserable death. Has anyone a recipe ?
