Hey everyone! I should have included the appropriate credits for each of the mod creators in the video. The SuperCIC is the creation of Peter Bartmann (borti4938) and the dejitter mod was created by Markus Hiienkari (marqs85). These amazing creators made their mods completely open-sourced which is amazing and a huge contribution to the community! SuperNintendo wasn't region locked as far as I know. On your SNES all you had to do was use a pair of needle nose pliers to break the tabs off and it played SuperFamicom games perfectly. I had tons of them. I brought a ton of games back from Japan like in 1996 and gave the whole system to my nephews when I later returned back to Japan. I still have it sitting in closet in the basement of my parents house after my nephews packed it up a few years ago after they got their Wii. It doesn't work in reverse though because the US carts are square and the Japanese ones are rounded, so you can't play SNES carts in a SuperFamilcon unless you take the lid off or use some adapter.
@Storm_.
@Storm_. Жыл бұрын
You really need to re-cap the motherboard too. They are prone to leaking. There are also lots of other good mods you could have done, like adding 100nf ceramic caps on-top of the existing caps that surround the PPU chips to reduce ghosting. There is also another mod where you put a 1700uf (or so) cap across the main power transistor, which reduces ghosting further. Also, it makes more sense to use a Japenese SNES since it can play both USA and JP games at 60hz without the need of a SuperCIC.

One thing I did on my Japanese SFC is buy a broken US SNES, and remove the cartridge flap and carefully Dremel the SFC shell so that the flap could fit neatly. The result is a clean look that allows all cartridges to slot in rather than US ones to pop out. Otherwise nice video.

With the dark green of the space between the grates being darker and the grates themselves looking a bit sharper, Raphael’s arm stands out much better altogether. There could still be a little better definition of his sai, but overall, it’s still a considerable improvement.

If anyone wants a snes, I personally prefer the Super Famicom, I know they're the same system but I havent been able to find an affordable snes (under $100) in my area for years, but imported a Super Famicom from japan for roughly $40 with cords and a controller. Games also import cheap if you find a seller you can buy in bulk from(to avoid ballooning shipping costs over time). I believe you can get multicarts for the SF with eng games, but I've enjoyed my JP library of arcade ports that don't have a language barrier, and some simple games that are easy to figure out.

It would be nice to get a comparison of this mod to a console which only uses the RAD2x and FXPACK Pro. The RAD2x HDMI adapter is based on the RetroTink 2x which should solve most problems. I think it is not worth soldering around in the console as RGB is already present on the Multi-AV. Also there are two types of consoles - 2 chip and 1 chip. The newer 1 chip version should have a better image quality.

I like the shell but the main issue I see is it being that sleek black then the games being an off grey color. Maybe a paint job of that quality and the little details, the stripes and lights but a dark grey color that looks similar to the cartages that way they don't look so jarring sticking out of the console.

Could have saved yourself a lot of extra work by just using a snes mini revision and just making the cart entrance universal on the shell. Also wouldn't need the rgb mod at all with that revision as they have a little less pixel bleed due to updated components. What we really need is decent replacement parts for many revisions of the SNES. Most of the SNES chipset is custom and the parts that fail the most (PPU1 & 2 and Vram)only have replacements by butchering another SNES for components. Maybe do a video of alternative functional chipsets?
