@@alexgregory6682 Georgiev was traded at his absolute lowest value, the AVS need as much young depth as possible for the playoffs, and they burned a 2nd on a goalie that is definitively not an upgrade. Georgiev was the best player on the ice when the AVS lost to Seattle and to Dallas, the team imploded due to the lack of depth and playing in an undisciplined system that tried to rush the zone and trade high danger chances and has been burned in the first or second round by any team that can clog up the neutral zone. It’s like Bednar doesn’t even know what the trap is, Pete DeBoer has made less talented teams dominate the AVS 3 out of the past 7 playoff exits, all with different teams. Blackwood just had his best game of the season, the fans online think that’s just who he is. When in reality he’s another 28 year old goalie who has never had to have as much responsibility or play as many games as Georgiev was forced to play and Blackwood wasn’t nearly as good for the Devils in the playoffs a couple years ago, they would have killed for a goalie who played as well as Georgie did against Seattle, Dallas, and Winnipeg.
@alexgregory66822 күн бұрын
@richy2258 would you have rather georgie walk in free agency and get nothing for him? Blackwood put up a 899 save percentage last year behind an absolute dogshit rookie sharks defense and is sporting a 910 so far this season. He didn't just come out of the blue and have a few good games. Bottom line is Georgie is way too inconsistent, there would have never been a good time to trade him. His career inconsistencies in the regular season and the playoffs sees to that. Its not a mystery why he had the most wins in the show last year and wasnt even mentioned for the vezna. You never knew what you'd be getting game to game with him and regardless of what they say it's hard to play in front of a tendy you don't have confidence in. You put good net minding in and the defense isnt hyperfixated on being perfect. That man can be a god one day and then let 5 soft goals in the next. You can't make a run with that. We're near the top of the league in fewest shots on goal allowed quality scoring chances allowed yet have the worst goals against, and goaltending isn't the issue? We lost to seattle due to lack of leadership and being very undeciplined and we lost to dallas because we had no net front presence. We were out muscled and bullied out of taking otters eyes away (which was the only way he was going to fail, that man was on fire) and Kovi wasn't gonna help with that, and who knows what a second rounder would do. Mac mikko and cale are all in the perfect window to win now.... why waste it on development of a pick that might not work out? Its not like we shipped out all out second round picks for the next few years, and still have our first. Avs hockey is fast paced high danger chances and D men constantly stepping up in the rush and it will sometimes leave the tendy out to dry, so having someone solid back there will only help our chances. I genuinely wanted him to work out here, but there's absolutely no way we were gonna resign Georgie this off-season and he wasnt going to increase in value. Show the locker room you believe in this group and go get them a piece to help them win. Maybe someone who can steal us a game here and there, that'd be nice lol. But I guess I'm just "brain dead" 😏

Dude what are you talking about? Only 2 teams in the West have scored more goals than Colorado this year. The problem isn't their offense, it's been the lackluster save percentage. And yes the defense hasn't always been great but that's the literal point of having a competent goalie. To save the ones he's supposed to and save some he's not supposed to, and that not what Georgiev has been able to do this year.

@@richy2258 While I do agree with you in regards to the front office mismanaging the backup situation behind Georgiev which resulted in overworking him, that doesn't tell the whole story. A perfect example is Philipp Grubauer. He was tremendous for us during his time here (Vezina candidate), and he never really had a fully healthy Francouz behind him (due to being injury prone & constant hip issues), so the backup goalie was always something to be worried about or question before any game. Now look at him in Seattle. Severely underperforming. Leading the league in wins the past 2 years is a very misleading stat. If it really meant that much, why wasn't Georgiev included in the Vezina conversations? He's was on a great team who can outscore anybody if needed (and win). At that point, his stats don't need to be great, he just needs to get the job done. Doesn't matter how many goals you give up, if you still outscore your opponent, you win. In recent years, the Avs tend to make goalies better than they actually are. Sure, this season you could make an argument that they haven't, but if you've watched the Avs, you would know that both the 6th D-Man has been a constant question & the plethora of injuries that, at times, have forced the Avs to play 3rd & 4th lines of AHL players, which is a big issue. Not to mention where they are in the standings with such terrible goaltending. Knowing all of this, let's compare Blackwood & Georgiev. Blackwood, on a terrible Sharks team, has been playing very well. Behind a defensive core worse than the Avs, he has posted over .900% and single-handedly kept them in games. Georgiev, behind a injury ridden Avs team (but still better than the Sharks, if you wanna argue, look at their respective records), has be incredibly inconsistent, and posted an awful .874%. For somebody who is thought to be a good goaltender in the NHL, he sure hasn't shown it. So if you really think about it, this is a good deal for both teams. The Avs get a much needed upgrade in goal, a gritty player who can set the tone & stand up for his teammates, and a draft pick. That's way better than simply letting him walk in free agency, because it was painfully clear we weren't going to resign him. As for the Sharks, they get a young player with good upside (possible top 6 minutes), a struggling goaltender who can regather himself on an ALREADY TANKING team, and 2 draft picks. Plus, this deal allows Askarov find his way into the mix sooner rather than later, which is good for the future of the organization. And who knows, maybe Georgiev does well for them. That might then allow the Sharks to flip him for more at the deadline, which would look like a masterstroke of a move. For the Avs, this is a deal for now. For the Sharks, this is a deal for the future. You have to look at all aspects of the deal. So before you come whining on here, weigh in all the factors. At that point you can make a much more educated, thought out opinion on the matter. You talk about this deal like you're the GM for another NHL franchise, which you simply are not.

I watch every Avs game. At the end of the day, the sharks allow the most shots on goal, the most rebound shots against, and the most giveaways. They are pretty poor defensively and Blackwood still outperforms Georgie… The majority of shots allowed on goal by the Avs are medium danger - Blackwood has the third best save percentage against medium danger shots in the league and Georgie has the worst (this is just out of goalies playing 15+ games so far). This information all comes from money puck for reference. I really don’t think it’s a matter of fault with the Avs - defense and goaltending both are flawed. Blackwood just appears to be a better fit. I guess we’ll find out but I’m kinda over the finger pointing at the defense. A goalies job is to save the team after defensive breakdowns… Blackwood looks like he does that better than Georgie.

Georgie will be better with a bigger d. With more net front presence. But with the Avs, they need tender that can save them here and there. And I get it, Georgie has had his games this year, and his first year was really good with a more solid D team, but these past two seasons have been abysmal. The Avs are typically having to score 6 goals to win a game. Does he have one or two great games? Yes. Then he falls off again for a couple of games. He needed a tandem. I think him and wedgewood as a 1a/b tandem could have worked. But I’m so freaking down with the Blackwood trade. Holy crap I’m stoked. As an Avs fan since they were in Quebec, I’m stoked. I’m calling it rn Tampa is gonna get Georgiev at the deadline fifty percent retained because johansson continues to be the worst backup in the league
@keatonjones42523 күн бұрын
I dont think the sharks are able to retain tbh
@bolt14953 күн бұрын
@ then they will just have to take Connor sheary instead the goat can have fun in San Jose
@keatonjones42522 күн бұрын
@bolt1495 I dont see how that would benefit the sharks. But hopefully there's a deal that could work out for both teams. I would hope we get back a early round pick or a defensive prospect in return as well, Sheary is just a little old for us on his own we already have are few veterans that are helping are young guys.
@bolt14952 күн бұрын
@@keatonjones4252 if Conor sheary is in the trade the sharks are getting at least a 3rd round pick for Georgiev and probably something else on top like one okay prospect
@lelouchvibritannia4028Күн бұрын
@@bolt1495Let me tell you as an Avs fan, you do NOT want Georgiev. He is the worst starting goalie. He won't even be a decent backup. Aside from SJ, no team wants him as his value is gone.

I respect your opinion but there is no way this is a win-win, this is daylight robbery by San Jose
@Nate-vq8wy3 күн бұрын
This is a great trade for both teams. Georgie is a free agent next season so SJ is on the hook for nothing. They get a second round pick and Kovi which is a bottom 6 guy that could have potential for a top 6 role with his talent if he puts it together. And the Avs get a starting goalie who has been playing very good in front of a rebuilding team. Thats why its a win win
@Retr-vc4wn3 күн бұрын
I'm a sharks fan and I think both teams won this trade. Sharks get some picks and a young forward, while the avs get their starter and some depth.
