I think it would have looked really cool if you did another version of the deer. This time, drill a space for a fairy light or two, glue the fairy light in place, then cover the deer with the decorative tissue. Then it would have a glow effect!

I love the dear ornaments! I yes stripes and checks!!! I also went through a Mackinzey and Childs period back in the 80s! I recently bought copper leafing to use on some Christmas ornaments. I like how they turned out but would prefer they looked a little tarnished. Do you have any suggestions on how I can accomplish a bit of tarnished look on the leaf?

Hi, thanks a lot! There are two ways you can do this. First is to use bitumen patina/bitumen varnish, that's the classic way of making the leafing look aged. It's a little bit complicated for me to advise certain products, since we've got different brands here, but Maimeri has this kind of products and I think it is sold in the US too. Here is the one that will definitely work - you are to rub the stuff into the leafing, till you get a desired look and then seal as usual: www.maimeri.it/en/products/decorative-arts/auxiliary-products/finishes/bitumen-for-gold-5920761.html They also have bitumen patina in their Idea range (called Idea Patina), that one will also work. You are to look for patina or varnish that has bitumen in its contents. The second way is to oxidize the leafing, to do this take sea salt, moisten it with 9% vinegar, apply the mixture over the leafing and cover with a cloth. After some time the leafing will change its color and may even disappear in some places, making the whole thing look aged. This may need some practice, since the result may vary. And I think you could also try dark wax AFTER you seal the leafing, this may also work here. Hope this helps!
